Vintage 1960 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins Western Orange Stain With OHSC - Colin Hay Gear
Truetone Music is proud to be partnered with the legendary musician Colin Hay in offering instruments out of his collection. Each comes with a signed certificate verifying the authenticity, assuring that it has been used on tour, in studio or personally by him. During his years with Men At Work, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, and his own solo career, various instruments were used. Very few have become available, until now.
We are excited to present a wondeful guitar from the collection, this Gretsch G6120 Chet Atkins built in 1960. It's survived and thrived for 65 years, been put to good use, and is now available to Gretsch aficinados, Colin Hay fans and collectors of fine vintage guitars.
The 6120 is a hollow body electric guitar with f-holes, manufactured by Gretsch and first appearing in the mid-1950s with the endorsement of Chet Atkins. It was quickly adopted by players that fell in love with it's big sound, ability to cut through the mix and overall cool vibe. Over the years, it became it a mainstay in the guitar world and is still Gretsch's flagship hollow body model. This is one of the most influential and iconic guitars of the 20th century.
Here we have an unbelievable example of one that is mostly all original, and super clean (normal player wear exists, see photos for condition). The binding is intact; quite often you see thes with the binding seriously deteriorated but not here. The finish has aged nicely. It's Western Orange Stain, a look that came to help define Gretsch. It's a primo example and great find for anyone wanting a vintage Gretsch that's in top shape.
The one mod made to the guitar is that it has a Gibson ABR-1 bridge, with Graphtec saddles. Players will find this to be a great improvement, as it helps keept the guitar in tune, a nice move for a guitar with a Bigsby. Everything else is original, including the pickups - these Filter'trons sound amazing, creating the tone known as the "Great Gretsch Sound", combining clean chime with a strong punch that can dirty up with the best of them.
The neck is super comfortable to play, and the frets are still in great shape. The guitar has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our house, and is ready to go.
This Gretsch 6120 is in great condition, especially considering its age. It's the cleanest vintage one we've had in here, that's for sure. The original hardshell case is included. Also, with the guitar comes a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Colin Hay.
Truetone has enjoyed a long friendship with Colin, and we are excited to offer the first pieces from the collection here. Not only are they instantly collectible, but they can also be put to good use right away!
