Exclusive Flame Mahogany 1960 Telecaster Custom

We at Truetone Music are always looking to come up with something you haven't seen before, especially when in partnership with Fender.  For this take on a classic 60's era Tele, we went a step further - going to the Custom Shop in Corona, CA to hand select the wood for a exclusive run of guitars.  We were taken into the wood vault, escorted by Fender's "Wood Czar" to go through their finest collection of wood spreads.  From that, we chose 6 different pieces, for an exclusive run of Tele Customs.  Only 6 will be made, each with a different exotic top.

The roasted Alder body body is topped with a highly figured Flame Mahogany top - that's the main calling card of this guitar.  The NOS lacquer finish with an added midas coat makes the wood grain pop out, especially with black binding to frame the body perfectly.  The final result had us drooling when it landed.

18th century designer, Thomas Sheraton, once characterized mahogany as “best suited to where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed.”  That quote is about furniture but perfectly apt to a guitar like this.  The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. An alternative term for the pattern is “crotch mahogany," because it derives from a crotch in the tree. The flame pattern extends outward from a core in waves.  Mahogany is hugely favored tonewood, and the flame on this hand-picked piece stands out as an example of how beautiful it can be.

Another feature that you'll be sure to notice is the roasted neck, made out of rock-solid quartersawn maple.  The 60's Oval "C" neck shape is super comfortable, and is capped with a beautiful piece of AAA rosewood for the fretboard (sorted to to find the darkest piece on hand).  This guitar has the modern preference of a 9.5" radius and 6105 frets making it easy to play.

We chose classic '63 Tele pickups give it the vintage sound that is beloved by Tele players everywhere.  The bridge pickup provides punchy mids and hot highs for that classic Tele twang, with staggered pole pieces to even out the inter-string response.  The neck neck pickup provides a warm and creamy tone.

We haven't seen a Tele with a Flame Mahogany top like this ever - it's truly stunning.  We picked the coolest looking piece Fender had at the time, which was earmarked specifically for this guitar.  Be sure to check out the included photo of the raw wood.

Come to Club Fender to experience it today, or make it yours right here.  Remember, only one was made, and once it's gone, it's gone for good.
