This Fender Custom Shop version, the 1964 Jaguar Deluxe Closet Classic, brings the original into the modern era with a more player-friendly feel, in a custom color rarely seen - Sherwood Green Metallic.

The offset, two-piece select alder body (sort for lightweight) wears a Thin Skin Lacquer finish that’s been aged like a fine wine, giving it the look and feel of a well-cared-for authentic original. We opted for the Deluxe Closet Classic package for this Jaguar. The idea is that it's a guitar that was built in 1964, then well taken care of and religiously polished for years, with an owner that took pride in keeping it in great shape. Over time, that finish would start aging, with moderate finish checking, fading and slight oxidation of the hardware and mild discoloration of the parts. The end result is a distinct look & feel. We chose this Sherwood Green Metallic as the color partly because it's not seen very often, and because it's one of our favorites! As an added bonus, we went for a matching headstock.

The tinted, rift sawn maple neck sports a “ ’62 Jaguar” profile, along with a 9.5”-radius fingerboard with 22 6105 frets. Following in his parent’s footsteps, he took up guitar playing at the age of 10 and soon found himself tinkering on it to improve playability and tone. Throughout his teens, Austin developed his building and repair skills and became the local go-to repair tech for many of the bands passing through.

After graduating high school in Saskatoon – Austin saved up and enrolled himself at the Guitar Craft Academy in Hollywood to further his skills and passion for guitar building. Recognizing his talents, immediately after completing the course the school offered him a position as one of their teachers. During these 5 years of teaching guitar building, he met Ron Thorn during an inlay seminar, and shortly after was offered a position at Thorn Guitars. For 11 years Austin crafted boutique electric guitars under the Thorn brand. something you rarely see. The wood grain looks spectacular. What else also really stands out is the bound neck (quartersawn maple) and pearloid block inlays on the fretboard - period correct for 1966 and a great look. What's also period correct is the 7.25" radius. For a bit of a modern feel, the guitar has 6105 (narrow tall) frets, making it easier to play and bend on. The guitar was spec'ed out with a special 59 Tapered C neck carve, measuring .820 - .980", which is quite comfortable. You get 22 frets and the classic 24" scale length, giving this guitar a great feel.

You also get Lollar Jaguar pickups, another custom feature of this guitar. Wound to be similar to the original 60's pickups, they offer improved bass fidelity and definition in the neck position and a fuller, fatter tone in the bridge position. Plugged in, we were blown away. Lollar really nailed the sound of a classic Jaguar, with a touch of modernization to give you the ability to cut through the mix while staying smooth and well balanced. The guitar has the vintage style wiring and controls, providing a ton of tonal options.

Other features include a period correct bridge and tuners, bonue nut and a tortoiseshell pickguard that looks great against the natural finish. The guitar comes complete with the original hardshell case, strap, Certificate of Authenticity and paperwork.

If you're looking for a unique Fender Custom Shop piece, this 1966 Jaguar Journeyman Relic definitely fits the bill. Setup to play perfectly by the texts in our shop and in excellent condition, it's ready for its next home.

Serial Number: R135067

Weight: 8.8 lbs

1966 Jaguar

Jouirneyman Relic

Aged Natural Blonde with Matching Headstock

Nitrocellulose Lacquer

Off-center Ash body

Quartersawn Maple neck

Medium tint

22 frets

59 Tapered C Neck Shape

1st Fret Depth: .820"

12th Fret Depth: .980"

Nut Width: 1.650"

AAA Rosewood fretboard (round lam)

Radius: 7.25"

6105 (Narrow Tall) fets

Bound Neck (white nitro)

Pearloid block inlays

Lollar Jaguar Pickups

4-ply Tortoiseshell pickguard

Vintage Fender tuners

Vintage adjustable Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge

Gold hardware

Custom Shop Deluxe G&G case (brown)
