To some, 1969 was a magical year in American history, especially in regards to music and popular culture.  After all, it is the year of Woodstock.  Major transformations were taking place, and as the world prepared to exit the 60's and enter the 70's, Fender was in full force and also transforming.  While it wasn't the first year of the larger headstock on the Stratocaster, that feature is one of the first thing players think of when they imagine a '69 Strat.  But there are other significant features too - the '69 U neck shape, a maple fretboard on a maple neck, and some of the best sounding pickups that Fender did during that era.  This Custom Shop 1969 Strat re-creates the sought after large-headstock Strat in detail, with the perfect customizations for players and aficionados alike.

The two-piece select alder body wears Nitrocellulose Lacquer finish with a WLS undercoat, keeping it period correct.  We chose to have this one done with an Journeyman Relic finish to give it the look and feel of a guitar that was played plenty, likely gigged with often, but always cared for.  Used, not abused.  We also went with a color rarely seen - Aged Firemist Silver.  This is a hard color to get "right", but the Custom Shop absolutely nailed this one.

The 69 U neck shape is very comfortable, and of course we did modernize the feel a bit - a flatter 9.5" radius and larger 6105 (narrow tall) frets for easy bending and playing up high, without fretting out.  This is the most common tweak on vintage-style Custom Shop guitars, and for good reason.

Custom Shop hand-wound ’69 Strat pickups (with reverse-wound/reverse polarity middle pickup) produce one of the most revered guitar sounds in music history - the full, punchy late-'60s blues rock tone that ruled the era from Monterey on the West Coast to Woodstock on the East Coast. Because of the clarity and transparency created by the unique coil wind and magnet structure, the '69 pickup design works especially well with pedals allowing the low end to thump and the high end to soar.  These pickups have enamel-coated magnet wire for warm vintage-style tones, staggered pole pieces for balanced output, Alnico 5 magnets for focus and enhanced dynamics, and the period-correct cloth wire and gray fiber bobbin.  We also chose the Vintage Modified # 2 wiring setup.  This features a master volume, tone # 1 (neck & middle pickups), and tone # 2 (bridge) with treble bleed (for keeping mids and rolling off highs without adding bass).  This guitar sounds downright amazing.

Other features include a Custom Shop vintage synchronized tremolo, period correct vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut, and wing string tree with nylon spacer. Also includes a deluxe black hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.

We have a special Strat here and don't think it will last long.  Come to Club Fender at Truetone Music to try it out today, or order right here right now to get it sent straight to your home.
