Used And Vintage Basses

Up on the market for you is this incredible 5-string bass from acclaimed bass builder Ken Smith. This fine instrument hails from 2018 and is the BSR 5GN model, a rare White Tiger 5-string beast.  We've had various Ken Smith basses in here over the years, and they're always amazing, but have never had one as nice as this.

This bass features a bookmatched highly figured Flame Tiger Maple top and back that is visually stunning, with a Black Walnut core.  It has a 5-piece laminated Aged Hardrock Maple and Ovankol/Shedua Neck., utilizing a graphite reinforced “neck-thru" design.  It's topped with a Macassar Ebony fretboard that feels incredible.  The 34" scale is easy to play, with a 1.75" nut width.  24 frets get you a full two octaves.  We were suprised at how comfortable the bass is - it's well balanced, doesn't feel too big, and the neck is absolutely incredible.

More about the wood:   Ken Smith bought Black Walnut trees 12-15 years ago, sliced them up, and air dried the lumber. Only 1% of Walnut Lumber has figured sections. Ken found rare Figured Walnut with Crotch Feather, Circular Grain, Criss/Cross Figure, or Flame Pattern. He used these pieces to make a special Limited Edition Model with enhanced beauty, construction, and tone. The Top & Back are Tiger Maple that has acclimated for years in the building. The Body Core is made of the same Black Walnut.

This instrument has two signature Ken Smith pickups, which are incredible.  Whether you're looking for something tight & punchy, or boomy bottom end, or super smooth for jazz, it can be dialed in.  Ken Smith basses are known for having a very growly, tight and modern sound, which this has, but we found it to be very versatile.  Slap away and you're cut through the mix, or attack as hard as your want, but you can tame the tiger when needed.

Full specs are listed below.  There's a reason why players from Phil Lesh to Freddie Washington choose Ken Smith basses, and it's not just for looks - it's the dialed in specs, highest standard of build quality, and unreal feel and tone.  They are simply hard to beat, and this bass is a great example.

This exquisite bass is in excellent condition - it was extremely well cared for by the previous owner and appears to have barely been played.  He got it as a studio bass and only utilized it a few times.  It was never gigged with or taken out of the studio until it came here to Truetone.  It's been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.

The original hardshell case is included, as is the original paperwork, pack of Ken Smith strings, and everything else.  It's truly the complete package.    For anyone that appreciates high-end basses with superior quality, built by one of the most legendary boutique bass builders out there, this is a serious score.
