Used And Vintage Electric Guitars

Truetone Music has been selected to take in a special collection of instruments from a very special long-time customer and friend of ours.  A collector of only unique, rare, vintage and high-end guitars & amps, he amassed a serious collection of these years.  For the first time, these pieces are available on the market for the first time.

One of the nicest guitars to arrive is this:  a Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab '58 Les Paul Standard, done by the legendary Tom Murphy himself.  Built in 2021 in Gibson's Custom Shop in Nashville, this is a prime example of the quality that one can expect.  From the general craftsmanship to the finest detail, everything is as perfect as it gets for a Les Paul.  Each is a handcrafted masterpiece with the character, feel and vibe of an original.  This one in particular is extremely resonant and sings even when unplugged.

The flame maple top on this one is absolutely gorgeous, and is painted in a special color called "Tom's Tea Burst".  It's a great vintage look, and a little different that everything else you see out there.  That's a big part of why we love this one so much.  Anything done by Tom Murphy is special, and this shows it.

Everything on the guitar is original and built to Wildwood's specs for a 1958 Les Paul Standard - with the exception of the pickups.  The original owner upgraded to Doyle Coils Tru-Clones PAF humbuckers, which sound amazing.  For those that don't know, Tom Doyle was Les Paul's right hand man for over 45 years.  They worked together to "clean up" the Humbucker pickup.  As a homage to his friend and mentor, Doyle created a clear, articulate and harmonically lively humbucker.  PAF purists and those that want the very best of tones have been striving towards Doyles Coils since.  After plugging this guitar in, we can see why.

The neck shape is a Chunky C, accurate to 1958, and while it's big, it's also super comfortable.  The Gibson Custom Shop absolutely nailed the feel of a '58 Les Paul Standard.  Of course all of the hardware and other appointments are period correct and expertly done as well.

The original hardshell case, Certificate of Authenticity and all other paperwork is included.  This is the complete package, and considering how much these are new, it's a great value for a guitar that looks like it was barely touched.  It's in excellent condition and has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.

We've had a ton of Les Pauls here over the years, from vintage to brand new, and have seen some amazing candidates for the best - this one has to be right up there.
