Fender Custom Shop 1962 Journeyman Relic Jazz Bass Aged Surf Green
The Fender Custom Shop isn't just known for making amazing guitars, but basses as well. This is about as good as an example as it can get - a Time Machine 1962 Journeyman Relic, in Surf Green for a perfect 60's vibe
Originally debuting in 1960, the Jazz Bass was widely adopted across many genres thanks to the thinner profile and closer string spacing that lets bassists fly around the neck. A classic instrument originally intended for jazz, the 1962 model replaced the stacked concentric control knobs with a three-knob arrangement.
The rumbling growl of a pair of hand-wound Custom Shop Jazz Bass pickups powers through any mix with ease. The two-piece alder body—with a Closet Classic nitrocellulose lacquer finish—is hand-selected for its light weight and strong grain, as is the tinted quartersawn maple neck with a vintage-accurate '60s "U"-shaped profile. This is an extremely comfortable bass to play all night, and one that will give you everything a class Jazz bass should.
We originally spec'ed this one out a few years ago, and keep reordering new versions over and over - as we know that a Surf Green '62 Jazz Bass is a winner! This one in particular is very balanced, has a smooth neck, can be both smooth and punchy, and rings with excellent sustain.
