No instruments epitomize the extraordinary expertise and attention to detail of Gretsch’s most trusted hands like Custom Shop instruments. From modern versions of legendary Gretsch instruments to artist tribute models and specially requested one-off guitars, the Gretsch Custom Shop takes “That Great Gretsch Sound” to an entirely new plane, but also preserves and perfects it.

Truetone Music is proud to have a long and close relationship with Gretsch, especially with the Custom Shop. A few years ago, we made a pilgrimage there to sit down with original Masterbuilder Stephen Stern and his team to cook up a batch of Custom Shop guitars. Some were vintage-styled recreations, some had modernized tweaks. Over the years, we kept it going. Sometimes it's a classic color, sometimes it's a totally new color or even reclaimed wood. No matter what, they always knock it out of the park!

This G6128CS 1959 Duo Jet is a a result of this partnership. A reinvisioned recreation of the Duo Jet, it has the classic Gretsch sound and feel, perfected by Masterbuilder Gonzalo Madrigal, and an unbelievable finish called Black Holoflake. It's part of a run of Gretsch Custom Shop models we're doing, and this Duo Jet is the first to arrive. To say it's eye-catching would be an understatement. As great as the photos are, it's even better in person, especially as light hits it from different angles. This is a stunning guitar.

From TV Jones Classic pickups to the Bigsby B3C Vibrato, it will be familiar to any Gretsch fan. It has a chambered mahogany body, reducing the weight - this one comes in at 8.2 lbs We chose the NOS finish package, to give it a "fresh off the line" look - there is no aging on this one. The neck is a very comfortable C shape (standard on Duo Jets). The ebony fretboard has vintage frets and is quite smooth. The fit and finish is perfect - you won't want to put this one down.

When choosing the pickups, it was relatively easy, as we were going for what best provides the legendary Gretsch sound as heard on many guitars before: TV Jones Classics. It doesn't get any more classic sounding than this. This is the pickup that started it all - the TV Classic captures that vintage twang and growl characteristic of the late 1950's Filter'Tron. Originally designed from an analyzed 1959 "Pat. Applied For" Filter'Tron, the TV Classic is one of the most popular and most versatile pickups out there. It sits right between a typical Fender (bright single-coil) & Gibson (darker & thick humbucker) with a unique growl when you dig in. Clean, compressed treble and mids breath life over a tight and controlled low-end.

We went with a brass rocking bar bridge. A long time favorite among Gretsch players, it produces a smooth glassy tone with enhanced sustain. The updated version of the classic Gretsch Bar bridge features cone shaped post holes allowing the bar to "rock" back and forth when a Bigsby Vibrato is used.

Other features include white binding, Gotoh tuners and bone nut. The guitar comes complete with a beautiful Gretsch tweed case (only available with Custom Shop models), a proprietary El Dorado leather strap, and a Certificate of Authenticity.

We've done a lot of Custom Shop Duo Jets from the beginning, but this one really stands out as one of the best. Come to Truetone Music to experience it in person, or make it yours right here.

MODEL #: 9252004395

SERIAL # UC26074033

WEIGHT: 8.2 lbs

BASE MODEL: Duo Jet - 1959 Style

COLOR: Black Holoflake

AGING TYPE: NOS (New Old Stock)

BODY: Chambered Mahogany, Single Cutaway

TOP: Arched Laminated Maple

NECK WOOD: Mahogany

NECK SHAPE: Standard "C"

FRETBOARD WOOD: Ebony

FRETBOARD INLAY MATERIAL: Mother Of Pearl

FRETBOARD INLAY STYLE: Block

FRETS: Vintage

NUT: Bone

TRUSS ADJUST: Headstock

HEADSTOCK LOGO: Rounded Horizontal Gretsch Logo

BINDING: White

NECK PICKUP: TV Jones Classic

BRIDGE PICKUP: TV Jones Classic

WIRING: Master Vol, Neck Vol, Bridge Vol, P/U Selector Switch and Tone Switch

PICKGUARD ENGRAVING: Gretsch Logo on Colored Pickguard

PICKGUARD: Silver

KNOBS: G Arrow

BRIDGE: Brass Rocking Bar

TAILPIECE: Gretsch Bigsby B3C Vibrato Tailpiece

TUNERS: Gotoh Vintage Style Tuners

HARDWARE: Chrome

CASE: Gretsch Tweed

https://www.truetonemusic.com/products/gretsch-custom-shop-masterbuilt-1959-duo-jet-nos-black-holoflake-with-case
