It offers warm, jazzy, and twangy low-volume clean sounds when kept under half-volume, making it a surprisingly capable studio recording tool. When pushed, the asymmetrical clipping of its single-ended power configuration shines, producing a raw, bluesy, garage-rock crunch reminiscent of vintage Supro amps.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"\u003eThis amp is in excellent condition considering it's over 60 years old, and works perfectly.  Additionally, it comes with a packet of information, created by SLA Restoration (a full write up on the amp, a user manual, plus multiple schematics).  This is a great find!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"\u003eFor the full outline of what SLA Restoration did to restore the amp, and everything about it, here's the write-up from their original listing:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e This unit is SN-31190, manufactured in Japan about 1964. This amp has been fully restored in and out. This amp is in excellent condition. Intended for guitar, this amp has low power, great as a practice amp, has great tone, lots of original good condition vintage appeal, and with the single ended 6AQ5 Power Tube and vintage DRC Deerfield Research 12\" ALNICO, great sound with nice early breakup.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThis U-42 is equipped with a single channel with Volume and Tone controls, and Pre-amp Tube bias wiggle Tremolo circuit with Speed control. This amp is equipped with a vintage tube line-up and includes a GE 6AQ5, and is powered by a Sylvania 6X4 Rectifier. The Power and Output Transformers are original. The DRC has a smooth bright tone, not too much bottom. This amp sounds great, has an added choke for exceptionally quiet operation, has been burned in, extensively tested and completely documented.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThere are three Univox versions of the amp: the U-41, U-42, and U-45. All versions use a single ended 6AQ5 power tube and 6X4 rectifier but with some circuit differences. This amp has been modified to include the earlier U-41 Tremolo circuit providing a slower lower speed, and the U-41 heater circuit balancing resistor for hum control. The U-42 is unique with its original Brown Tolex and Gold Grill Cloth, and exceptionally clean controls and panel. At just 19 pounds, it is easy to move anywhere.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThis amp includes the original repaired Brown Tolex, original Gold Grill Cloth, new Brown Leather hand made handle, and new Rubber Feet. Includes the original touched-up Badge and Knobs. There are typical knicks and scratches for a 60 year old amp.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThis amp has been immortalized and includes a number of safety and protection upgrades including a new power cord with grounding, AC line safety capacitor, Varistor surge protection, HT fusing, and rectifier protection diodes. The cathode biasing has been adjusted to provide maximum performance. These mods do not alter the overall operation of the original circuitry. All power supply, electrolytics, coupling capacitors, and a majority of the resistors have been replaced. There are minor scratches, imperfections, and metal oxidation typical of an amp over 60 years old.
