Taylor Truetone Custom Select guitars are all one-off pieces.  Here we have a stellar 714ce Koa, unlike any other out there.  After admiring the photos, you can read all about it below.

This Taylor Truetone Custom Select 714ce combines the lushness of Figured Koa with the crispness of Engelmann Spruce, resulting in an amazing sounding guitar.  A wide variety of players can appreciate this wood combination, whether it be for fingerstyle or heavy strumming and everything in between.

The Figured Koa used for the back & sides is stunning, both visually and sonically.  It delivers a rich, vibrant tone characterized by a clear, "woody" quality. Koa provides a strong midrange presence with superb tonal balance. It's known as a wood choice that ages gracefully, gradually enhancing its sound as it is played over time.  This was matched with an amazing Engelmann Spruce top, which was hand-selected for this guitar.  It's slightly brighter and creamier than Sitka Spruce, giving the guitar a striking lightness in contrast to the warm back and sides. Engelmann Spruce also yields a rich midrange, which gives the guitar a focused punch, especially while fingerpicking.

The Grand Auditorium Body shape is Taylor’s most well-known and favored design, comfortable and easy to play.  It's big enough to project well but small enough to be comfortable.  The Venetian cutaway makes accessing the upper register quite easy.  This guitar has Taylor's standard carve neck profile, which is slim without being skinny and comfortable to grip for hours.  While the body is full gloss, the neck has a satin finish for smoothness.  A unique feature to this custom build is that we chose Smokey Ebony for the fretboard and peghead overlay - this is something you don't see often, if at all.

The body is accented by Indian Rosewood binding and a beautiful rosette made of rosewood and paua, which is striking.  To match this, we chose abalone dots (4mm) for the fretboard inlays.  Other unique features include Taylor Polished Bronze tuners, a Dark Stained Sycamore pickguard and Ebony bridge pins with abalone dots (something we've done on all of our Custom Select guitars).

Another unique aspect of this guitar is that it comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs HiFi pickup/preamp.  As much as we love Taylor's own ES2 system, we chose to go another route with this guitar.  Part of the reasoning was to avoid any routing on the body - all of the controls are internal.  Most importantly, it's because we love how the HiFi system sounds - we feel that it really gives you the cleanest and purest sound of whatever guitar it's put in without altering the tone.  It's a non-invasive pickup design that pairs dual bridge plate sensors with high-fidelity electronics, providing exceptional balance, definition, dynamics, and good feedback resistance.  This has become the "go to" system in our shop, so we knew we had to choose it for this guitar.
