The Esquire was the first solid-body guitar sold by Fender, debuting in 1950.  Shortly after its introduction, a two-pickup version came out, was renamed the Broadcaster, then the Telecaster.  Over the years, many players have fallen in love with the simplicity of the Esquire, and the Fender Custom Shop has done an amazing job in recreating this 1958 version.

First of all, the guitar is unbelievably resonant and smooth playing.  It has a light ash body, and a rock solid quartersawn maple neck.  The '59 Esquire C neck shape is popular in general (not just on Esquires).  The Custom Shop 63 Tele bridge pickup can cut through with a bite when it needs to, but also cleans up nicely, making this guitar surprisingly versatile.   And, it's lightweight - the guitar is only 6.8 lbs.

We chose to do this one as a Journeyman Relic - there's finish checking, and a few small dings on the body - all minor, nothing major, just normal player wear you'd see on a vintage guitar.  It has the look of a guitar that's been played extensively but not abused.  The neck is more heavily worn, for that truly broken in feel.  All around, it's amazing playing guitar.

Other features include period correct tuning machines and bridge, bone nut and a single ply parchment pickguard. Also includes the tweed hardshell case and certificate of authenticity.

There are few guitars as formidable as the Esquire, a stripped-down workingman’s instrument that will chisel through any mix.  The simplicity of having just one pickup gives the guitar an extra edge of character that only Esquire players know about and that lets players create tones and sounds strictly based on inflections of the hands.  The Fender Custom Shop has absolutely nailed it with this one, as expected.
