Every year, we make a pilgrimage there to sit down with Masterbuilder Stephen Stern and his team to cook up a batch of Custom Shop guitars. Sometimes we go for vintage-styled recreations, sometimes we go for modernized tweaks. Sometimes it's a classic color, sometimes it's a totally new color or even reclaimed wood. Either way, they always knock it out of the park!
This G6131TCS 1962 Firebird Jet is a a result of this partnership. This recreation of a classic double-cut Duo Jet brings you back to the early 60's, part of the era known as the "golden age" of Gretsch. Masterbuilder Stephen Stern absolutely nailed it, as he always does.
Duo Jets are typically seen as a single cutaway, but this double cutaway is also a well-known classic. We chose Firebird Red to keep it period correct - the Closet Classic finish on the nitro lacquer body provides a beautiful, gracefully aged appearance. The TV Jones Classic pickups, Gotoh vintage tuners, a Bigsby B3C, and ebony fretboard with thumbnail markers, give it the period correct specifications. The mahogany body is chambered, making it much lighter and easier to play for as long as you want. This is a guitar you won't want to put down!
