Used And Vintage Electric Guitars

Fender’s third and final late-’60s/early-’70s experiment with redesigned Telecaster models was the Telecaster Deluxe, developed in 1972 and introduced in 1973.  This version represented Fender’s first forays into the world of humbucking pickups. These produced the kind of thick, warm guitar sound in vogue during that era, which stood in marked contrast to the traditional 1950s-1960s Fender single-coil sound typified by the bright, snappy signature tone of the Telecaster.  While it didn't enjoy a ton of success at the time, over the years it became a sleeper hit and the darling of a whole new generation of guitarists.

The Deluxe was billed as the top model in the Telecaster family when it was introduced in 1973. It shared the same body shape as its predecessors, but any family resemblance ended there as the Deluxe had a large Stratocaster-style headstock, a Stratocaster-style body contour, a pair of Wide Range humbucking pickups designed by Seth Lover, and the pickguard-mounted four-knob/three-way toggle switch control layout of the Telecaster Custom.

Here at Truetone, we are fortunate to get some amazing vintage guitars, and this Telecaster Deluxe from 1973 is one of them.  The original Walnut finish is in tact, and the grain of the ash body comes through nicely.  It has the perfect amount of "honest player wear".  The tuners & saddles have been changed; all of the other hardware is original, and most importantly the pickups are original.  The neck had refret (jumbo's) years ago, but also a fret dress, so they aren't quite as tall now.  This makes for an extremely comfortable, smooth playing experience.

The original case went its own way long ago, and the previous owner preferred a gig bag anyway, so this guitar comes with a gig bag.  If you would prefer a hardshell case, we do have Fender cases available and would be happy to hook it up as part of a package deal.

This is a super cool guitar, and probably one of the best playing 70's Tele Deluxe's that we've had here.  It's the right look, feel, sound and vibe - it's likely to go fast!
