Used 2013 Fender Custom Shop 1972 Custom Telecaster Closet Classic Shell Pink with Case

For a long time the 1972 Telecaster Custom has been a favorite among the Fender Custom Shop builders.  We can see why.  We've always been fans and now even more so with the arrival of this amazing specimen.

Built in 2013, this Closet Classic '72 Custom Telecaster represents the best version of what was introduced back in the day as an upgraded Tele.  It featured a humbucker in the neck positon that was added to make it more of a "rock" guitar.  The original models were dense and heavy - but in today's world, the Fender Custom Shop has found a way to make it way better while retaining the true vintage vibe.

The hand-selected lightweight ash body is resonant and comfortable, especially with the back contour (known as the "belly-cut").  The guitar weighs in at 7.4 lbs.  The neck is also super comfortable with a period correct "U" shape profile and a maple fretboard with the modern tweak of a 9.5" radius and 6105 (narrow tall) frets.   We love how it feels.

Right away you'll notice the color - Shell Pink is something that was rarely seen for a long time, now much more prevalent, but rarely seen on a '72 Tele Custom.  Simply put, it looks amazing.  The guitar has the Closet Classic treatment, so you get slight aging with checking, but no heavy relic'ing here.

The real standout here is the pickup configuration: you get a period correct Fender Wide-Range humbucker in the neck position and a Twisted Tele single coil in the bridge position.  That humbucker brings the hotness, while the bridge pickup balances it out.  Together, they give you a sound that you wouldn't get on a standard Tele.

Other features include two volume and two tone controls, the original 3-bolt neck joint, and period correct hardware.

This Custom Shop Tele is in very good condition - there's a ding on the bottom side, but the rest of it is super clean.  The guitar has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.  The original case is long gone, so we paired it with a super cool brand new Fender Ombre case (see photos).  The guitar did come to us with a Certificate of Authenticity, which is included.

This is a rare find, and we'll be sad to see it go, which we think will be soon!
