As a Showcase level dealer for the Fender Custom Shop, we are continuously getting new guitars that blow our minds. That's why we keep ordering them. Then, sometimes a used one walks in that equally blows us away. This is one of them.
The Custom Shop is well known for taking vintage style Telecasters, adding the modifications that became popular over the decades, and putting out a fully hashed out "players Tele". This 1951 Tele HS is a perfect example of that. It has all of the vintage vibe and appearance of a heavily used guitar built 70 years ago - but one that a player needing "more" out of, and got it by throwing a humbucker in the neck position. The end result is captivating. One of the most iconic and popular models in Fender history, the "Blackguard" Telecaster has earned its place as an unmistakable tonal force on countless recordings. It's pretty cool to be able to offer this historic guitar with all the customized modifications made famous by players and technicians throughout its storied history.
The two-piece ash body wears a Heavy Relic lacquer finish that imparts the look and feel of a well-loved instrument that's seen its share of action. The tinted rift-sawn maple neck has a comfortable 10 / '56 "V" profile, topped with a 9.5" fingerboard radius with 21 narrow tall frets. A Seymour Duncan® Seth Lover humbucker neck pickup and hand-wound" Crushed " Blackguard Tele bridge pickup are combined with dual-stack HS Tele wiring to create a perfect sonic balance using 250k (bridge) and 500k (neck) volume and tone potentiometers. Adding a humbucker adds a whole another level to the versatility of a Tele, which is exactly why many players have done it over the years. And by choosing the Seth Lover model from Seymour Duncan, it's hard to get more "real" than that.
Other features include '51 Nocaster® bridge with compensated brass saddles, single-ply black pickguard, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut, and disk string tree. And, it's really lightweight - just 7.2 lbs.
This is pre-owned guitar, but might as well be a new one, considering it's a Heavy Relic - and it comes with everything it originally came with, including the certificate of authenticity, paperwork, bridge cover, strap and Custom Shop tweed case.
