Used And Vintage Acoustic Guitars

We don't get one in often, but when we do, we know it's a special thing - any Collings acoustic is.  This OM3, built in 1997, is no exception.  In fact, it might be one of the best sounding Collings guitars we've had come through the door.

'OM' stands for "Orchestra Model," but 80 years after this body shape was first designed, it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. Yet flatpickers also find it appealing, and when the graceful cutaway is added these OMs are often used by lead players who routinely explore all 20 frets much as they would on an electric guitar. The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and the relatively shallow body (barely over 4 inches deep) results in balanced tone and an immediate response.

Each Collings guitar starts with the wood being hand selected, evaluated and graduated to its own unique thickness, maximizing the tonal potential of the guitar.  Only the finest tonewoods are used.  You can definitely hear it in this guitar, with a perfectly chosen Sitka Spruce top.  That's matched with extremely expressive East Indian Rosewood for the back & sides, in addition to the Honduran Mahogany neck and Ebony fingerboard.  The finish is meticulously perfected by hand-sanding between coats of nitrocellulose lacquer, which is kept thin to bring out the full acoustic response while providing excellent protection and aesthetics.  Yes, this guitar looks amazing - but that's second to how amazing it sounds!

The Modified V-shaped neck plays comfortably and effortlessly, all the way up and down the neck, with a wonderful balance.  The clarity & definition between the treble & bass is as good as we've heard.   It projects like a dreadnought, without sounding "boomy".  Simply put, this guitar sounds absolutely sublime.

This one in particular is from a highly desirable era of Collings, and has a soundhole label signed by Bill Collings himself.  It's in great condition, and other than a small ding (not through the finish) on the top, it's nearly impeccable.  The previous owner barely played it.  The guitar has been vetted and setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.  It's all original, with the original hardshell case.

A Collings acoustic is often seen as the pinnacle of acoustic guitar ownership - and this would be a fine addition to any collection.  Come to Truetone Music to experience it today, or order right here to have it expertly packed and safely shipped to your home.
