Fender Custom Shop Exotic 1958 Telecaster Quilted Maple NOS Emerald Green Transparent

At Truetone Music, we are always looking to come up with something you haven't seen before, especially when in partnership with Fender.  For this take on a classic late 50's era Tele, we went a step further - going to the Custom Shop in Corona, CA to hand select the wood for an exclusive run of guitars.  We were escorted into the wood vault, to go through their finest collection of wood spreads.  From that, we designed a batch of 15 guitars that are all one of a kind.  Almost all we designated to be left Natural, but one was targeted to have a completely different look - the result is this Emerald Green Transparent 1958 Telecaster.

The AAAAA Quilted Maple top (over an ash body) is something to behold.  This level of Quilted Maple is typically only seen on Masterbuilt guitars.  When we saw this particular spread, we were presented the option, we knew we had to jump on it.  Given its beauty, we chose to keep this one as an NOS piece - no aging or relic work - and it came out exactly as we dreamed, if not better.  You still get the classic Tele tone out of the ash body, but with the exotic look of a 5A Quilted Maple top, which also affects the sound.  It's a subtle thing, but maple is known to add a bit of brightness and quicker attack.  

Another great feature of this guitar is the neck.  It has an easy playing Modern "C" profile, with a 9.5" radius and narrow tall (6105) frets.  We chose this neck shape due to its comfortable grip - while it has a vintage feel in the first position, it's really slim in the higher register.   This profile has had a resurgence in recent years, as many players have found that it bridges the gap between old school chunky and modern thin necks.  The grip is comfortable, and you won't want to put this Tele down.

For the pickups, we went with the Custom Shop Twisted Tele set.  This gives you full clarity, with enough bite to cut through the mix.  The deliverance of hot high-output Tele tone with a dash of sparkling Strat character has made this one of the most popular Custom Shop sets. Each pickup is tailored to its position (neck and bridge) to achieve its individual sonic character. The neck pickup's taller bobbin is designed to accommodate more windings, combined with a slightly shorter bridge pickup bobbin for dark full-bodied midrange. Formvar-coated neck pickup magnet wire adds brightness and glassiness, while the enamel-coated bridge pickup magnet wire delivers warm vintage-style tones.  Flush-mount polepieces produce even string response and Alnico 5 magnets add more focus and enhanced dynamics.

Other features include an RSD Tele bridge, which is our favorite and helps the guitar stay intonated.  It's topped off with vintage tuning machines, bone nut and a Silver Anodized pickguard - and for a unique twist, the control plate is also Silver Anodized.

The guitar includes a Custom Shop deluxe hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.  Also, this one is light, coming in at just 7.2 lbs.
