Used 2021 Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition Double-Bound Stratocaster Journeyman Relic Aged Candy Tangerine with Case
We get a lot of amazing Fender Custom Shop builds here, so it takes something special for us to do a double-take, and that's what happened when this guitar came in. It walks the line between vintage and custom, creating something familiar from that past that never was. It's a Limited Edition Double-Bound Stratocaster with Journeyman Relic treatment in Aged Candy Tangerine. And it's sublime.
Based on a 1960 Strat, what jumps out right away is that the body is non-contoured and has binding (both front & back). That in itself makes it unlike 99% of the Strats out there. This adds a custom touch rarely seen. The Custom Shop gave it the Journeyman Relic treatment, creating a look and feel of a vintage piece that has been used but not abused - you get finish checking, small marks/dings, and aged hardware. It's tastefully done. The color is Aged Candy Tangerine, one of our favorites.
Crafted with 60 Style Oval "C" profile (.790 - 930") roasted quartersawn maple neck, it's finished in nitro lacquer with a broken in feel, delivering the tactile warmth and playability characteristic of vintage instruments while maintaining modern playability. That's partly due to the compound radius (7.25 - 9.50") on the rosewood fretboard - it flattens as you go higher, making bending notes in the upper register a breeze. It features clay position markers and 21 narrow tall frets with precisely rounded crowns that transition seamlessly to the fretboard edges. This is a great playing Strat, that's for sure.
The Custom Shop JCE handwound single-coil pickups employ staggered pole pieces and conservative winding specifications to achieve balanced output, articulate definition, and authentic tonal character across the frequency spectrum. They are low output, vintage style pickups that bring both bell-like clarity and a good punch when you need it.
A 1/2 Blender circuit repurposes the secondary tone control as a blend when the five-way selector engages the bridge and middle pickup positions, expanding sonic possibilities beyond conventional Stratocaster wiring schemes. With the selector in the bridge position, the blend knob lets you add the neck pickup in any proportion, while the bridge/middle setting allows you to blend-in the neck pickup. This lets you easily access a lot of sounds.
Other features include vintage locking tuners, 21 frets, a bone nut (1.65") and a vintage style bridge. The guitar came to us without the original case or COA but we've authenticated it with Fender and paired it with an aftermarket hardshell case.
This Custom Shop Double-Bound Strat is in excellent condition and has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop. It's a great find for someone in the market for a unique piece that sounds, feels and looks amazing!
