In the nearly 20 years since John Patitucci first gained recognition as a member of Chick Corea's legendary Electric Band, he has established himself as one of the best jazz bassists of his time. Shifting seamlessly from a bandleader to respected sideman, John relies on his TRB JP2 signature 6-string bass to fit any role.

You don't see many 6-string basses out there, and it's hard to find one that's as comfortable to play as this one.  It's the first we've had since adding Yamaha to our bass lineup, and we immediately found it to be the right move.  The fit and finish is impecable, the solid build quality is second to none, and the unique design really makes this instrument stand out.

Building upon Yamaha's TRB bass foundation, John Patitucci meticulously defined the specifications he requires for an effective 6-string electric bass. The body combines laminated ash and alder, two classic woods favored in vintage instruments, while figured maple veneers enhance clarity in tone. The ebony fretboard, elegantly detailed, extends to 26 frets, providing an expanded range ideal for solo performances. A bolt-on neck design was selected to enrich the instrument’s warm low-frequency response.

While 6-string basses are typically favored in select genres, John collaborated closely with Yamaha engineers to tailor the active preamp, providing precise control over the most essential frequency ranges for versatile bass performance. He also contributed to the design of the custom alnico V humbucking pickups, exclusive to this model.  This helps to ensure adaptability for virtually any musical setting.
