Here's a rare find in the world of tube amplifier heads: the Orange OR50H. In 1972, Orange launched an amp that defined their sound. It was known as "The Graphic", but later dubbed the "Pics Only" due to the absence of any text, instead using pictures only on the front panel of the amp. Orange Amplification re-introduced it as a limited edition in 2008 as part of their 40th Anniversary. Whilst not a reissue of those early ‘Graphic’ amplifiers, the OR50 proved to be a huge hit on account of its distinctly vintage voice. In 2012, due to overwhelming public demand, it was reissued as the OR50H (without the "40th Anniversary" on the front panel, so it has the exact same appearance as the original).
Featuring a traditional single channel layout, 50 Watts of output and a three stage gain section, the real weapon in the OR50H’s arsenal is the HF Drive control. As the HF Drive increases, so does power amp presence. Beyond 3 0’clock, this control introduces an extra dimension of power amp gain for serious scream. Combined with an intricate midrange, the OR50H goes from dark and gritty, to rich and smooth, and features a footswitchable master volume defeat to boost for leads. Fans of Stoner Rock and early Metal will instantly feel at home at higher gain settings, whilst pushing the power stage yields superlative classic rock and blues tones. The OR50H is not one to be missed for those searching for the definitive ‘Orange’ sound.
We just took this one in - it's in incredible condition (check out the photos), and comes with a tour-ready road case. It also comes with a one-button footswitch. For anyone that knows how special the OR50H is, this is intriguing find, especially with the road case included. Don't less this one pass you by, as these are difficult to find and we doubt that we'll ever have another in!
