ONE OF A KIND ROUNDUP

The Gretsch Custom Shop is where the time-honored legacy reaches its creative apex. No instruments epitomize the extraordinary expertise and attention to detail of Gretsch’s most trusted hands like Custom Shop instruments. From modern versions of legendary Gretsch instruments to artist tribute models and specially requested one-off guitars, the Gretsch Custom Shop takes “That Great Gretsch Sound” to an entirely new plane, but also preserves and perfects it.

Truetone Music is proud to have a long and close relationship with Gretsch, especially with the Custom Shop.  Every year, we make a pilgrimage there to sit down with Stephen Stern and his team to cook up a batch of Custom Shop guitars.  Sometimes we go for vintage-styled recreations, sometimes we go for modernized tweaks.  Sometimes it's a classic color, sometimes it's a totally new color or even reclaimed wood.  Either way, they always knock it out of the park!

This G6130CS Rodeo Roundup Jr. is a perfect example of what the Custom Shop can do.  This isn't just any normal build.  It's a one of a kind with reclaimed wood, which is pine from the seats of an actual rodeo in Montana.  Yes, it's a Rodeo from a rodeo.  With all of the character of the wood preserved, this guitar is branded as # 8 - that's the seat number on it.  Additionally, on the back, you'll see that seat # 6 is represented as well.  Masterbuilder Gonzalo Madrigal, along with the legendary Stephen Stern, worked directly with Truetone Music to create this guitar.  We see ourselves as fortunate to do so, and are proud to present this amazing guitar, blending music, culture, history and art.

Of course, part of what makes a Roundup like this is the hand-tooled leather trim on the sides of the guitar.  We've seen a few of these over the years, but none as nice as this.  If the side trim wasn't enough, they went a step further by doing the same for the pickguard and truss rod cover.  Other features on the guitar include a perfectly done mother of pearl headstock logo and Western motif block inlays on the fretboard.  Even the hardware is perfectly aged to match the overall vibe of this guitar.  As an added touch, the reclaimed pine was used to create the control plate covers on the back.  And yes, that hole is meant to be there - it's part of the charm and uniqueness.  It's absolutely unbelievable what they did to create this guitar.

Obviously the aesthetic is what stands out right off the bat.  However, that's not all that there is to this.  You'd be hard pressed to find a better playing or sounding Gretsch Roundup anywhere. The C shape neck is extremely comfortable, and has the perfect amount of relic'ing to feel broken in.   The body is made of mahogany, with the pine top; the neck is also mahogany, with a rosewood fretboard.  The guitar is surprisingly light, even with the Bigsby BG6 (a classic Gretsch element).  It's well-balanced and could easily be played while strapped on for hours.

We went old school with the pickups - the guitar is loaded with a pair of DynaSonics, made at the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop.  They provide the legendary Gretsch sound.  It's a proper single pickup, in that there is one bobbin and coil of copper wire.  It's wider because there's a thick Alnico 5 bar magnet to the side of the bobbin (instead of pole pieces like most single coil pickups).  This magnet magnetizes the steel spacer between itself and the bobbin, transferring it the a single row of adjustable pole pieces.  This is how a DynaSonic pickup gets its big, glassy tone, unique to itself.  It's that classic bright output that makes a vintage-style Gretsch like a  favorite for gorgeous cleans, as well unruly higher-gain sounds.

The guitar comes complete with a special blonde case, high-end El Dorado strap and Certificate of Authenticity.  The full list of specs is below.  Be sure to check out all of the photos to see everything, and zoom in to see the intricate detail.

It's truly a stunning guitar, and one you won't see anywhere else - because it's the only one ever built!  We consider ourselves lucky to be able to present this masterpiece.  Come to Truetone Music to experience it in person, or make it yours right here.
