Pre Owned Ron Thorn Guitars SoCal R/S Lime Gold With OHSC

Here we have something truly special, a guitar you will rarely ever see (or should we say never, since it was the only one exactly like it ever built).  It's a Thorn Guitars SoCal R/S in Lime Gold.  Crafted in 2016, prior to Ron Thorn's run at the Fender Custom Shop, it's one of less than 100 SoCal R/S models ever built.

The body style is familiar but all-in, this guitar is it's on animal.  It features a Roasted Alder body and very unique Dark Roasted Maple neck.  We've never seen anything like it.  At glance, one may think that it's Rosewood or perhaps Mahogany, but that's Maple.  It's capped with a beautiful Curly Maple fretboard that is rather stunning.  The guitar has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish and is painted in Lime Gold, one of Thorn's favorite colors.

It's extremely well-built and super resonant.  The Medium "C" neck profle is very comfortable to play, and it's easy to bend all over with the 10" radius and medium jumbo frets.  We found this guitar to be suitable for a variety of playing styles.

When it comes to how it sounds, what comes to mind are two words:  "classic" and "amazing".  This due to the Rocketfire Total 60's pickups that were installed (the original Lollar/Thorn pickups are included).  According to Rocketfire, here's the scoop on these:

If you're looking for huge vintage bluesy tones that cut through the mix yet smooth as butter with silky sweet highs these are it! They're made to nail the original tones from the vintage Strats we grew up hearing. There's a tone that was sort of etched into our brains and ears as we've listened to music over the years. It's a sound that we attribute to a Stratocaster that tells us, NOW that's a Strat! Characteristic of these pickups is a raw, gutsy; vintage sound with a hint of almost tube rectifier compression that comes back at you after you hit a chord. The sound is very complex with good dynamics and amazing clarity. They also break up GREAT!

Also replaced was the pickguard - originally it was anodized gold, but we think it was a good move to put the parchment pickguard that's on there now.  It keeps it more classic looking and will appeal to more players.  Everything else on the guitar is original.

The guitar is in excellent shape - it's clean and looks barely played other than a small chip on the side of the upper bout.  The original hardshell case and paperwork is included.  The techs in our shop have set it up to play perfectly.

Anything built by Ron Thorn is special, and this rare SoCal R/S is really a rare find.
