Gretsch Custom Shop Masterbuilt Stephen Stern G6130-CST Leather Roundup

IMPECCABLE CRAFTSMANSHIP

The Gretsch Custom Shop is where the time-honored legacy reaches its creative apex. No instruments epitomize the extraordinary expertise and attention to detail of Gretsch’s most trusted hands like Custom Shop instruments. From modern versions of legendary Gretsch instruments to artist tribute models and specially requested one-off guitars, the Gretsch Custom Shop takes “That Great Gretsch Sound” to an entirely new plane, but also preserves and perfects it.

Truetone Music is proud to have a long and close relationship with Gretsch, especially with the Custom Shop and the legendary Stephen Stern.  As the founder and head Masterbuilder, Stern is responsible for the inception, growth and pinnacle status of the Gretsch Custom Shop.  Earlier this year, he announced his retirement, with only a few last guitars being finished as he rode off into the sunset.  This is one of them.

Every year, a special collection of guitars is presented at an exclusive dealer event, with the ability to bid and win some of the most impressive guitars ever created in Gretsch's 140 year history.   If there ever was a guitar to score, this was it.  We are proud to present the G6130-CST Leather Roundup.

A photo is worth a thousand words, and we have excellent photos - so we'll pause here to allow you to take it all in.  Be sure to check out all of the photos and to zoom in to really see the incredible detail on this guitar.

The guitar was crafted by one of the best in the history of guitar building, Stephen Stern, and it's one of the last he ever built for Gretsch.  In special partnership, he enlisted the services of the amazingly skilled leather artist, Dru Whitefeather, as well as the equally skilled artist Pamelina H.  Both have been frequent collaborators with the Fender and Gretsch Custom Shops over the years.  We've had guitars that each have worked on, but never one that all three have worked on!  Once Stern built the guitar, Whitefeather added the incredibly detailed and intricate leather work to the body.  After that, Pamelina painted the highlights on the leather.  Once all of the art was completed, Stern got the guitar back to finalize everything and put the finishing touches on.  Needless to say, the end result was incredible.

Featuring a Closet Classic finish, the guitar has a mahogany body with a maple top.  It's a super comfortable "C" profile mahogany neck, topped with a Rosewood fingerboard and adorned with Western Motif inlays.  Red side dots add a nice touch.  As impressive as this guitar looks, and with the knowledge that it's a true collector's piece, this is a playable work of art - and it plays amazingly well.  Of course, it also sounds amazing, thanks to a pair of Seymour Duncan Soapbar P-90 pickups.  Smooth, warm tones arise, with a tight bottom end.   They have just as much of the added midrange heft and stringy top end that Gretsch fans crave. This is a great choice that Stern made for this guitar, and we quickly fell in love with the way it sounds.

As a bonus, the guitar includes a Gretsch Belt Buckle Tailpiece.  Gold hardware completes the look.  A deluxe hardshell case, high quality El Dorado leather strap, and signed Certificate of Authenticity are included.

As a premier Gretsch Custom Shop dealer for many years, we've had a lot of amazing guitars come through Truetone.  This is one of the most interesting, and definitely the most special.  Not only is it one of the last Gretsch guitars ever built by Stephen Stern, but it also is a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration with both Dru Whitefeather and Pamelina H.  It's a truly unique piece, never to be created.  Come to Truetone Music to experience it in person, or make it yours right here.
