Pre Owned 1980 Marshall JMP Master Model Mk2 100 Watt Llead Guitar Amp Head

We have a real treat for the real rockers right here - straight out 1980, here's Marshall JMP Master Model MKII 100 watt Lead head.
This amplifier represents a hallmark of late 1970s and early 1980s British amplifier design, serving as a transition from the classic '60s Plexi models to Marshall's newer styles. The 1980 version showcases the distinctive brushed aluminum faceplate and black tolex covering, featuring a large "Freightliner" logo instead of the traditional script badge, along with different knobs. As a quintessential example from the 'rocker switch' period, its prominence was boosted by AC/DC's rise in the mid-1970s, cementing its place in heavy rock history.
Equipped with four EL34 power tubes and two ECC83 preamp tubes, this amp produces the iconic sound that shaped its generation. The inclusion of a factory-installed master volume control was a significant advancement for Marshall, enabling musicians to attain that powerful, saturated distortion at lower volumes while maintaining clarity and impact.
Renowned for its remarkable clarity and definition, this amplifier provides a focused low end, prominent midrange, and richly textured highs that respond dynamically to your playing style. Whether dialed in for classic rock crunch or pushed to full high-gain saturation, the JMP Mk2 produces one of the most iconic and lasting sounds in the world of guitar amps.
As with all vintage amps, the first thing we did was have it inspected, vetted and serviced by legendary L.A. area amp guru Greg Leon. He reported back the following:
- Replaced 250k Treble Pot
- Replaced plastic Marshall output jack
- Amp has been put back to stock
- Cleaned and Lubed all controls, tested all components
Obviously the big thing is the logo - yes this is a Marshall without the Marshall logo on it! The story is rather interesting. The most recent owner bought the amp years ago at Roadworthy Guitars in Bloomington, IN. They had gotten it from the guitarist of the 90's band United States Three. And this amp is featured on the cover of their album Le Temps Du Tempo. So it's got a bit of 90's era rock history right there!
The amp is in good shape, considering it was utilized on the road for gigs - it's stood the test of time for 45 years and is ready for many more trips around the sun!
