Truetone Music has been selected to take in a special collection of instruments from a very special long-time customer and friend of ours. A collector of only unique, rare, vintage and high-end guitars & amps, he amassed a serious collection of these years. For the first time, these pieces are available on the market for the first time.
This creates an excellent opportunity - a chance to get an incredible Gretsch Custom Masterbuilt G6136CS Falcon built by Stephen Stern. It's like none other out there. This guitar was just built earlier this year (2022). It went to his home, was only played a couple of times, and was kept in its case the hold time. So, this guitar is like new, in perfect condition, and comes with the original case, Certificate of Authenticity, hang tags, etc. It's been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our repair shop.
The Gretsch Custom Shop is where the time-honored legacy reaches its creative apex. No instruments epitomize the extraordinary expertise and attention to detail of Gretsch’s most trusted hands like Custom Shop instruments. From modern versions of legendary Gretsch instruments to artist tribute models and specially requested one-off guitars, the Gretsch Custom Shop takes “That Great Gretsch Sound” to an entirely new plane, but also preserves and perfects it. There's not much that can rise to the level of a Masterbuilt Gretsch, and this Holoflake Falcon is an excellent example of that.
It's a reimagining of a classic model, with hand-selected wood that we picked out with Masterbuilder Stephen Stern. The finish is what will grab your attention right off the bat - it's called Black Holoflake, and like nothing we've ever seen. It's extremely eye-catching, and we're not even sure how to describe it - but that's what photos are for! Be sure to check out the close up shots of everything, not just to see the color, but also the other intricate details and again. The striking Gold Sparkle binding really makes it pop, especially with the gold hardware. This guitar definitely isn't one to settle into the background! It's for the front of the stage.
Stern chose to do this one as a Relic, with just the right amount of wear. We love how it came out, especially with the hardware. The aging is expertly done, and in all of the right places. It definitely adds to the vibe and uniqueness of a guitar like this.
The stock "C" neck shape is familiar and comfortable, topped with an Ebony fretboard. The gold Bigsby, Grover Imperial tuners and the vertical headstock logo gives it the late-50's Gretsch vibe. And for tone, it's loaded with TV Jones Classics for the classic Gretsch sound. It doesn't really get more classic than that. A Falcon is a surprisingly versatile instrument, having been put to use by players such as Neil Young, Roy Orbison, Billy Duffy, Mary Osbourne, Brian Jones, Jimmy Webster, and Joe Strummer. It's great for clean tones, but also dirties up and rocks out.
