Used And Vintage Acoustic Guitars

The Boucher PS-SG-161 is especially crafted to fulfill the needs of demanding guitarists. Whether one is looking for precise acoustic sounds while performing live or to meet the stringent requirements of studio recording engineers, this model will provide it.  Furthermore, this Super Jumbo body size guitar from the Special Edition Series stands out with its exclusive and flamboyant appearance - this is one of the most striking guitars we have in here.

The Private Stock Curly Maple used for the back and sides of the PS-SG-163 features a unique wood grain that possesses extraordinary sonic and aesthetic properties.  Yes, it looks amazing, but it also sounds amazing.  Maple is a hard wood, and this guitar is bright, percussive and projects nicely - all while still sounding warm.  Whether it be fingerpicking or strumming, this guitar exudes natural, balanced tones full of character and charm.  Each Adirondack red spruce soundboard of the Special Edition Series is meticulously selected to provide the wood qualities needed to deliver high end sound.

The playability and versatility of this guitar makes it the ideal instrument to channel your inspirations into harmonious melodies.  No matter what your musical goals demand, the Special Edition PS-SG-163 will deliver.  Any Boucher guitar is remarkable, and the Special Edition Series take it to a whole another level.  Here's what to expect:

  • Distinctive and highly figured tonewoods
  • Exotic wood body bindings
  • Superior quality tuners
  • Exclusive aesthetic elements
The guitar comes equipped with a K&K passive transducer pickup, one of the best out there, and perfect for live performance.  It includes the original hardshell case (high quality TKL case in tweed), as well as the Certificate of Authencity.

This is the third Boucher guitar we've taken in recently, and couldn't be more impressed. It plays amazingly, especially after being setup by the techs in our shop. It's in excellent, near perfect condition. If you're in the market for a high-quality acoustic, you would be hard pressed to find one nicer than this one.
And for even more information about this particular guitar, the previous owner provided us with additional info.  He received a letter from Robin Boucher, owner of Boucher Guitars that was very interesting.  Here's what it said:
For your information, your Boucher Jumbo guitar is not only a Boucher Jumbo
guitar.  Actually, it is a Jumbo guitar made from of our unique and unfortunately
non-repeatable flamed maple from my own private stock / reserve of tonewoods.  Long story short is this....

I bought that unique and specific log of flamed maple from one of the leading musical tonewood supplier on earth.  He supplies all the majors. High quality Sitka, Englemann, Red Cedar tops,  name it!  And of course, highly figured/flamed maple B&S sets.  Fortunately, he is also a great friend of mine. He's David Lapeyrouse, owner
of Timber Tonewoods, B.C., Canada.  As we are both Canadian tonewood suppliers, we got to be friends and travelled several times together in the USA, Europe, and Asia for business purposes.  In July 2021, he called me about that unique maple log that he got saying that the intensity of the 3D figure combined with that very strange and unique reddish color was the very first specimen he got in over 40 years of tonewood supplying business.  Generously, he sent me some pictures of the log and offered me the first pick. My answer was; David, I will not take just few B&S sets coming from that
log. I want to buy the whole log!  Fortunately, after some negociations, he agreed.

I exactly extracted 127 back & sides sets from that log. 97 of them were super highly figured, the other 30 were medium figured. At the end, for some different reasons (cracks, knots, etc), 12 of then were rejected.  So, only 115 were availble and only 44 of them were wide enough to make Super Jumbo sized guitars from that unique wood.

We built number PS-ME-1032-J (so, the 32nd from the S-Jumbo Series) last week.  Yours is number 1009, (the 9th). As you probably already understood, 1044 would be the ultimate last one.
