Used And Vintage Electric Guitars

Over the years, there have been various D'Angelico models, ever since the originals made by John D'Angelico himself.  This modern take on an archtop was made in their highly regarded Korean factory, under strict quality control supervision.  The resulting EX-63 became a favorite due to its excellent build, outstanding playability, sweet sound and overall value.

It features a large archtop body, scale length of 25" and a retro sunburst finish.  The spruce top is combined with gorgeous flame maple for the back & sides.  These woods combine to create a very balanced tone, warm enough for the smoothest of jazz runs, but crisp & clear enough to cut through the mix.  The slim C-shaped neck is super comfortable to play.  The guitar is a great choice for a variety of styles, from fingerstyle picking to rhythm strumming.

There's a lot of vintage vibe with this one too: the Art Deco-inspired "Stairstep" tailpiece, floating ebony bridge, raised tortoise pickguard, Grover Imperial Super Rotomatic tuners, and a the aluminum Skyscraper truss rod cover to complete the look.

We just took this one in, and it's in excellent condition.  The previous owner played it, but not a lot - he has a big collection of guitars, and he keeps all of them in pristine condition.   It was bought here at Truetone originally, and now it's back again.

Everything is original, other than one very nice upgrade: when the guitar was originally purchased, the owner had us instill a DeArmond 1100 Rhythm Chief pickup.  It was a great choice.  This floating single coil pickup has been a staple feature of archtops since the mid-1950s. Besides providing a natural, woody, acoustic tone, another innovative feature was the fingerboard mounting bar. This allowed installation of the pickup in the neck position of the guitar without having to alter the solid wood soundboard. It continues to be one of the most sought after archtop guitar pickups today.  Controls were placed under the bottom edge of the pickguard, for easy on the fly adjusting (without having to do anything to the body).

The guitar comes with the original D'Angelico hardshell case.  We've had a lot of archtops here, and this is one of the best in this price range that we've seen.  The upgraded pickup and electronics makes it all that much better.  And, it looks absolutely gorgeous.  For anyone that's in the market for a nice jazz guitar that won't break the bank, this is a steal.
