Truetone Color Set - Surf Green Burst

Ever since the Stratocaster debuted in 1954, it has evolved, even in the earliest days.  The Strat has continued to change over the years, but for many, stepping back to how it was done in the 60's is the way to go.  The Fender Custom Shop excels at recreating the look, feel and sound of these guitars, often with special tweaks.  That's where we decided to go with this one.

As part of a close partnership with the Fender Custom Shop, Truetone Music cooked up an exclusive run of guitars, known as "Truetone Color Sets".  It's where we do a quartet of instruments - Strat, Tele, Jazzmaster and Jazz bass - all in the same color, as a matching set.  For the colors, we picked unique ones that are rarely ever seen.  In this case, it's Surf Green Burst, one of the coolest and most eye-catching colors that we've come across.  It's not even shown in the list of Custom Shop colors - this is something we saw in an article about vintage Fender instruments, and had to ask if it could be done.  When the answer came back as "yes", we knew we had to choose it as a color set.

The result is actually cooler than we thought it would be.  Surf Green Burst has immediately become a favorite amongst us, and its totally unique look is why we love doing this with the Custom Shop.  There's no sense in us describing it - just look at the photos and you'll see why.

We chose to do this one as a Journeyman Relic to accent the vintage vibe.  With that comes heavy checking, some light wear, and a totally "broken in" feeling neck.  We specifically asked the Custom Shop to wear the finish off of the back of the neck, making it super comfortable to play.

This Custom Shop '62 Strat is a testament to their ability to pull off vintage recreations with modern playability.  It features a period correct 60's Style Oval "C" neck shape, vintage-voiced pickups, and a mostly otherwise traditional design.  We went with a 9.5" radius and Narrow Tall (6105) frets - this is one of the most common and popular modifications to vintage-styled instruments out of the Custom Shop.   So, you get a modern feel on a vintage style guitar, with the ability to bend notes without fretting out.

Fender Custom Shop Fat '60s Strat pickups deliver sweet 1960s single-coil Stratocaster sound with plenty of crisp articulation. They provide mellow vintage tones but with enough bite to cut through the mix with crisp articulation, and are over-wound for a hefty low-end punch.  Alnico 2 magnets, Formvar magnet wire, period-correct cloth wire, and a fiber bobbin keep it accurate to what you would expect in a vintage Strat, with a warm, sweet output.  The reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle pickup eliminates hum for whisper-quiet performance.

Other features include a 4-ply tortoise shell pickguard, vintage clay dots, a vintage bridge and tuning machines, and a bone nut.  It also includes a Custom Shop hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.

This is an extra special Strat, as part of a Truetone-exclusive color set in Surf Green Burst. You haven't seen it before, because it's the first and only exactly like it to ever exist. Come to Club Fender at Truetone Music to check it out, or order right here to have it shipped to your home.
