Custom Shop 1965 Stratocaster
In 1965 Leo Fender sold the company he founded to CBS, effectively ending the era of the original Strat. This Fender Custom Shop1965 Stratocaster is a testament to this iconic design, representing the guitar as it was during one of its most popular years, but with a few modern updates. As music evolved during this era, so did Fender's finest creation. The Strat has continued to change over the years, but for many, stepping back to how it was done in the '60's is the way to go.
One of the first things that you'll notice is the finish. While much of what you see out there these days are Relic instruments, for this one we chose to go NOS (New Old Stock). This gives it the appearance of a guitar fresh out of the factory back in the '60's, with a perfectly clean lacquer finish - no dings, no dents, no wear whatsoever. Straight up and clean, just as it was intended to be as a new guitar. We also chose a custom color that you rarely see: Firemist Silver. The Mint Green pickguard is a nice touch as well. This is one of our favorites looks - and the Custom Shop nailed this one.
Custom Shop 65 Strat pickups give you classic clean Strat tone with the right amount of bite to cut through the mix. From vintage bobbin construction to genuine original-era cloth wiring, these pickups are wound to precise specifications for authentic, traditional Fender tone and performance. No other pickups give you the powerful, clean and clear surf rock tones of mid-'60s Stratocaster guitars like this. Enamel-coated magnet wire delivers warm vintage-style tones, Alnico 5 magnets add more focus and enhanced dynamics, and staggered polepieces balance volume and output across every string. As a common modern tweak, the guitar is wired with a 5 way switch.
We went with the base model neck shape, which is a '65 Strat "C" - it's a perfect middle ground between thick & thin, and one of our favorite necks here. It's a vintage feel, but with 6105 frets and a 9.5" radius you get easy playability. The grain on the dark AAA rosewood fretboard is really nice - we noticed that it has great figuring seen up close. This guitar has all of the look, vibe and sound of a vintage Strat, but with modern playability. All of the hardware is "period correct", with the right tuners, bridge, etc.
We spec'ed out this guitar ourselves, with the idea that the world needs more NOS Strats! It's refreshing to see one that made to look brand new, unplayed, and super clean. It comes with a Custom Shop black case, leather strap and certificate of authenticity. Experience it by coming to Club Fender @ Truetone Music, or by ordering right here to be shipped to your home.
