A Tweaked Classic
The 1951 Fender Telecaster is the quintessential electric guitar that started it all and is still a favorite after all these years. Simplicity of design and the alluring tone that only a Tele can produce have graced countless recordings and stages over its long lifespan, and the Custom Shop ’51 Telecaster captures the original essence in all its glory. For this one, we went with a few twists to differentiate from everything else that's out there.
***This one in particular came to us with a small ding on the bottom corner of the body, near the jack. Therefore, a B-stock discount has been applied. Other than that, the guitar is perfect - so if you're okay with a slight imperfection, this is great opportunity***
The guitar features a two-piece select ash body, like most early 50's Teles that you see. The unique part of this one is really the neck. It's a one-piece Quartersawn AA Flame Maple with a 10/56 "V” profile. Typically, a '51 Tele will have a much larger, "U" neck shape. We chose this alternative neck shape to provide players with a different option. So, it has the look and sound of an early 50's Tele, but the feel of a mid-to-late 50's Tele. We also went with a vintage compound radius of 7.25 - 9.50" as another special tweak. This makes it super comfortable for chordal work in the first position and then flattens out as you go up the neck, making it easier to play leads up high without fretting out, especially with the 6105 (Narrow Tall) frets. It's a great feeling.
We also chose to have this one done with the Deluxe Closet Classic finish treatment. While most of the Custom Shop 50's Teles you see out there are Relic's, which we love too, we wanted to offer a version without all of the wear. We've found that more and more players are gravitating towards guitars that are NOT worn, but still want a bit of aging. The Deluxe Closet Classic package creates the appearance of a guitar that was well taken care of and religiously polished for years, with pride put into keeping it clean, but over the the years the finish started showing age. It results in moderate finish checking, color fading, slightly aged metal and and overall vibe that creates a distinct look and feel.
Custom Shop hand-wound ’50/’51 Blackguard pickups provide perfect vintage-correct tone in combination with ’51 modified Nocaster wiring, which lets the player blend both pickups together in switch position 1. So, it goes like this:
Position 1. Bridge Pickup (+ Neck Pickup with Blend control)
Position 2. Neck Pickup
Position 3. Neck Pickup with No Tone Control (dark vintage circuit)
As an added bonus, the guitar comes with extra Fat 50's Tele wiring harness in the case, so you can switch it if you'd like.
The pickups were created with the original design in mind to accurately recreate the twang and shimmer of the originals. They provide a tight low end and clear, balanced midrange, with all of the top end sizzle you'll ever need. This pickup set is for the player that wants the true vintage Tele sound.
Other features include a single-ply black phenolic pickguard, ’51-’54 Tele bridge with brass barrel saddles, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and disk string tree. Also includes a deluxe tweed hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.
We have a special Tele here and don't think it will last long. Come to Club Fender at Truetone Music to try it out today, or order right here right now to get it sent straight to your home.
