Fender Custom Shop

In 1965 Leo Fender sold the company he founded to CBS, effectively ending the era of the original Strat. This Fender Custom Shop1965 Stratocaster is a testament to this iconic design, representing the guitar as it was during one of its most popular years, but with a few modern updates.   As music evolved during this era, so did Fender's finest creation.  The Strat has continued to change over the years, but for many, stepping back to how it was done in the '60's is the way to go.

We chose to give this guitar a Deluxe Closet Classic lacquer finish, simulating the look of a guitar that's been cherished and aged like a fine wine.  There is finish checking, but no actual wear, scratches, dings or dents.  It appears to be a guitar that was bought new, put away and never played - and now is ready to be put to serious use, and will wear in a distinctively personal way.

The lightweight two-piece body is crafted from alder, sorted for lightweight.  A standout aspect of this particular guitar is the AAA Flame Maple neck, which is absolutely stunning.  The medium tint helps accentuates the flame, and gives it a warm, vintage vibe.  The round lam rosewood fretboard was specifically sorted for darkness, and sports a 9.5" radius, 6105 (Narrow Tall) frets, and mother of pearl dots.  We went with the base model neck shape, which is a '65 Strat "C" - it's a perfect middle ground between thick & thin, and one of our favorite necks here.

The hand-wound ’65 Strat single-coil pickups offer authentic tone that’s easy to refine while the reverse-wound/reverse-polarity middle pickup reduces hum when used in combination with the other two.    We also chose the Vintage Modified # 2 wiring setup.  This features a master volume, tone # 1 (neck & middle pickups), and tone # 2 (bridge) with treble bleed (for keeping mids and rolling off highs without adding bass).  This guitar sounds downright amazing.

Now, about the color:  over the years, British Racing Green has varied quite a bit.  At times it's a very vibrant green, and at times it's a very dark, almost black look (and everything in between).  This one is the former.  It's truly green, a perfectly done shade, and looks amazing.

Other features include a five-way switch, American Vintage synchronized tremolo bridge, vintage-style tuning machines, 3-ply Eggshell pickguard, wing string tree with nylon spacer and bone nut. Includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.
