Limited Edition Rosted Pine Double Esquire
Ever since Fender came out with their first electric guitar the early 1950's, new models, variations and features have come to be. What also happened is that it became common for guitarists to tinker with their guitars, adjusting nearly everything until it was completely personalized and custom. The Fender Custom Shop has taken many of these tweaks and ideas to create magical guitars, justifying its moniker, the Dream Factory.
The Limited Edition Roasted Pine Double Esquire is a great example of this. It combines unmatchable craftsmanship with creativity, resulting in a “could-have-been” instrument. One standout feature of this guitar is the roasted pine body, is sturdy as can be, lightweight and full of resonance. It sports a very thin Flash Coat lacquer finish, with the Relic treatment, creating the look and feel of a vintage Esquire. It came out perfectly on this Faded Aged Wide Fade 2-Tone Sunburst finish. Of course, a vintage Esquire would have a single pickup - but it was common for guitarists back then to add a second pickup. That's where the idea for this guitar came from. Hence, the "Double Esquire".
The Handwound ’50-’51 Blackguard pickups produce some of the most authentic classic Fender tones you'll ever hear. There's a reason that they are some of the most requested pickups for custom builds. They give you all of the twang, bite and crystal clean tone that you'd expect, and a surprising amount of versatility is at your fingertips. The Modified ’51 Nocaster wiring ties it all together. Position three provides a twist on the “rhythm” tone, while position two offers the neck pickup solo, wired directly to the volume pot, and position one is the bridge pickup alone, with volume control and blend for the neck pickup.
Playing this guitar is super comfortable - the neck is a one piece, riftsawn maple, which has a vintage style 1950 Blackguard shape. It's not a small neck, not quite a baseball bat, but it is chunky. It has a modernized 9.5" radius and 6105 (Narrow Tall) frets, allowing easy chordal play in the first position as well as easy bending without fretting out as you go into the upper register. We also had the Custom Shop apply a Heavy Relic treatment on the back of the neck, to give it fully broken in feel.
Other features include medium-vintage frets, single-ply Black pickguard, vintage-style bridge & tuning machines, bone nut and round string tree. Includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity. Also, this guitar is nice and light - it weighs in at just 6.6 lbs.
