Gibson Custom Shop 1959 ES-330 Reissue Vintage Burst With Case
The Gibson ES-330 is a truly legendary model. This thin line hollow-body electric guitar was first introduced in 1959, and became known for its distinctive sound and design. It featured a fully hollow body, P-90 pickups, and a neck joint at the 16th fret. Now, the Gibson Custom Shop has resurrected for the first time in nearly a decade.
This “true to original spec” reissue is crafted with period correct construction, bringing truly iconic tones to the table. Built with a fully hollow, thinline 3‑ply maple/poplar/maple body, the reissue omits the ES‑335’s centerblock, giving it a notably open, resonant acoustic voice and impressive unplugged volume—one reason it’s long been celebrated as a perfect “couch guitar.” This ES-330 has a C-shaped Authentic 1959 neck profile that is a dream to play. The 1.69" nut width, 24.75" scale length and 12" radius all contribute to a guitar that is easy to handle.
Tone comes from a matched P‑90 Dogear set: a standard‑wound Alnico 3 bridge pickup and an underwound Alnico 5 neck pickup, delivering a balanced, articulate range across positions. Each pickup has dedicated volume and tone controls with CTS pots and paper‑in‑oil caps, plus a Switchcraft three‑way toggle and output jack. As a fully hollow guitar, it’s naturally more prone to feedback at high gain, but with thoughtful technique it produces beautifully expressive overdrive and a singing, distinctive sustain. Its versatility spans Americana, blues, 60s pop, jazz, country, and rock.
Other features include a trapeze tailpiece, a no-wire ABR-1 bridge, Kluson Deluxe tuners, dot inlays, and True Historic gold top hat knobs. Gibson's VOS nitro lacquer finish is perfect for a guitar like this, giving you a nice vintage vibe. A super high quality Lifton hardshell case is included.
We received one of the first ones built, and are truly blown away. The fit, finish and overall vibe leaves nothing to be desired. Even unplugged, we started to fall in love....and then put through a classic tube amp, we had to convince ourselves that that guitar should be sold, as we're tempted to keep it here!
