Used And Vintage Electric Guitars

For those that appreciate a piece of guitar history, we have something special here: this amazing vintage Gibson Les Paul Custom SG, signed by the man himself.  It's a rare find in itself, but to have Les Paul's signature on it makes it that much more special.  A framed photo of him signing this exact guitar is included.

Gibson introduced their new body shape in 1961, and since then it's become iconic.  Legends such as Robby Kreiger, Tony Iommi and Angus Young created a legacy.  In the current age, a diverse ground of players from Daron Malakian to Jeff Tweedy have continued to make the SG a go-to choice for many.

Specifically, this 3-pickup Custom is something to behold.  Built in 1963, it has withstood the test of time for over 60 years, and is ready for another 60. The techs in our shop have vetted and set it up to play perfectly.  Here's everything to know about it:

  • Original finish
  • Original factory-installed Bigsby
  • Original pots and caps
  • Refretted (vintage frets)
  • Replaced pickups (Gibson "Tarback" humbuckers)
  • Replaced tuners
  • No truss rod cover
  • Replaced bridge (Schecter)
  • No switch washer/chip
  • Aftermarket case

The beveled solid Honduran Mahogany body is light and resonant, especially with the aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish.  While this is somewhat of a collector's guitar, it's also meant to be utilized as intended, and it does play great.  The Honduran Mahogany neck with an Ebony fretboard is easy to play for hours.  The 12" radius and vintage frets make it seem effortless, and the profile is a super comfortable grip.

While the original pickups are long gone, what was put in the guitar sounds amazing.  It's a set of Gibson-made "tarback" humbuckers.  Also known as the Super Humbucker, these were designed by the legendary Bill Lawrence, and are found in many Norlin era Gibson guitars.  They known for a very distinctive, rich and booming mid response with an aggressive push. Nice bite to the top end and a tight bass response from the strong ceramic magnet.  They sound great in this guitar.

You won't see many Custom's with a Bigsby like this one - it ends up being a very versatile guitar that can be used in variety of settings.

The guitar is in great shape, especially considering it's age.  While it's not a mint, all-original example of a '63 Les Paul Custom SG, it is a great vintage piece.  We are excited to have this guitar here, and look forward to placing it in it's next home.  Signed by Les Paul himself, this is an artifact of history, and the only one out there like it.
