Straight out of the barn comes one of the more unique beasts we've ever had here, and for the vintage low end lovers: this 1963 Gretsch 6070 Country Gentleman Hollow Body Bass. Perhaps you've never heard of it, or maybe you've been searching for one for years. Either way, if you want a truly unique, big bass, here it is. It's a great hollow body from the company known for great hollow bodies, Gretsch!
This 6070 Country Gentleman bass features a single Gretsch Supertron pickup, delivering an authentic sound perfect for variety of styles of music, especially old school blues, rockabilly, jazz, motown or other such generes. The big neck profile and upright bass-like thump produce rich, powerful tones for an unrivaled listening experience. Experience true quality with this vintage bass for an unbeatable sound. Try it through a fuzz pedal and prepare to be blown away.
While the neck is really big, it's surprisingly east to play. The Deep C neck shape lends itself nicely to the 34" scale. For added comfort, check out the pad on the back of the body (after all it is a Country Gentleman).
The Gretsch tailpiece is not original (although it is "period correct"). It appears to have been switched out some time ago. It does not have the original "cello" stand for standing, upright-style playing. Also, when we took it in, we did a fret dress and fixed the mute assembly, which works perfectly now. The bass has been setup by our main vintage expert/luthier, so it plays like a dream.
Built in 1963, it's now 60 years old and has stood the test of time (and the binding has too, which is kind of rare!). This is a special bass that deverves a new home.

***Note: due to the size of this bass, it is not eligible for free shipping. We've marked it as for local pickup only but if you do need it shipped, please contact us directly for a quote.
Additionally, we could not find a gig bag on hand (let alone a hardshell case) to fit it. So, it doesn't come with one and unfortunately we don't have one to supply***
