Used And Vintage Electric Guitars

Here we have a classic from the early '80's, a killer vintage Yamaha SG-1000.  Built in 1981 in Japan, this is from what is known by some as the "golden era" of Yamaha electrics.  This model in particular is regarded as one of the best electric guitars that the company made.  Originally introduced in 1976, with improvements based heavily on input from Carlos Santana, Yamaha hit a home run with the SG-1000.  They took an original American design, combined it with the most advanced Japanese technology of the time, and created a guitar with incredible tone and feel.

Featuring an arched maple top on a solid mahogany body, 3-piece neck (maple center with mahogany sides) and ebony fretboard, this SG-1000 sings with legendary sustain.  1981 was a transition year for Yamaha - the ebony fretboard and Brown Sunburst finish ended that year.  The 24.75" scale length is very comfortable, and balances quite well.  Individual volume and tone controls, push-pull pots and a 3-way selector switch allow you to dial in the perfect tone.  It's a great guitar for rhythm as well as lead playing.  The vintage voiced alnico humbuckers sound amazing, and the ability to split each is a nice feature.  It looks great too, with the mother of pearl split inlays and gold hardware.

The condition of this one is very good, but it does show plenty of signs of use over its 40 year life.  Please be sure to check out all of the photos to see the condition of the finish, including the back.  The neck is in great shape - the techs in our repair shop gave it a fret dressing, new nut (bone) and set it up to play extremely well.  Everything is original, but the original pickguard is not present.  The guitar came to us without the original case, so it's in an aftermarket gig bag.

If you're looking for a great example of what Yamaha did back in the day, want a killer SG-1000 and are okay with some honest player wear, you've scored!
