From 1986 and we got the fix, this Made In Japan Contemporary Strat HSS in Black, a truly stellar guitar. This is a guitar that hits you on multiple levels. That's right, it's from 80's, from Japan, with American-design with multiple kinds of pickups. You don't see many of these around, and it's a great.
The classic Strat body is here in alder body with the double-cutaways and sleek contours. The bolt-on maple neck with a familiar "C"-shape profile and satin finish. The rosewood fingerboard adds some warmth to the snappiness of the maple neck. 22 frets and dot inlays adorn the fingerboard. This one in particular refretted in 2010 by the legendary John Carruthers and has a changed but. Since then, it's only had a few hours of playing time, so there is tons of life left in the frets.
This was an incredible era for Japanese Fenders, in fact, there is a definite opinion from some that these rival or even surpass their American cousins in terms of playability. The black finish, black headstock, black pickguard, and black knobs up the coolness of the aesthetics for sure.
Why stay on one pickup's great tone when you can have more with this HSS configuration. You get two single-coil pickups in the neck and middle pickup with a humbucker in the bridge. You get a wider range of tones with the bell-like tone with chime from the middle and neck. The humbucker is your gateway to thick tones with plenty of bite, especially with the switch to split the coils to a single-coil pickup. Whether its clean or distorted these pickups are perfect for any style of playing. You may notice that there are only two knobs, making this Contemporary model unique in the long lineage of Stratocasters.
This is a Contemporary Strat so you get a distinct system tremolo bridge for expressive pitch bending while maintaining tuning and intonation. It should be noted the arm itself is aftermarket. You also get locking tuners and nut as well. The guitar came to us without all of the parts for the locking nut (missing the latch pieces on the top - see photos). It still works as a nut of course. The guitar has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.
So if you want a Strat that has everything that Made In Japan guitars a hit and more this one from 1986 is a good one for you. This guitar is in good condition, especially considering its age, and comes with a hardshell case. You've found a winner right here.
