Used And Vintage

For those low end players that appreciate the rarely seen, we have a truly unique one with this Paul Reed Smith Standard Bass.  This hails from 1986 and has super low serial number of 30. There were only 2000 of these basses produced from 1986-89, with this being one of the first. This is not only historic and highly collectible, but it is also simply a great playing bass.

This Paul Reed Smith Standard bass was hand-made at the original factory in Maryland. It features a compact body design with double-cutaway solid mahogany with comfortable contours that are unique yet familiar. It is wonderfully balanced and has a 34" scale length. You get a set mahogany neck with comfortable neck shape with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard! The fingerboard is adorned abalone moon dot inlays and 22 frets.

A huge standout of this bass from others is its active electronics which feature three pickups and extensive tone controls. It comes with three single-coil pickups with a clever hidden dummy coil mounted to the rear of the body for hum-cancellation. These pickups are in ideal and distinct positions to give you thick articulate tones from each position. The neck pickup is close to fingerboard for the roundest tones while the other pickups are much closer to the bridge and each other for more bite and attack. PRS famously uses a 5-position rotary switch lets you select your favorite pickup combinations. There is an active/passive mini-toggle preamp switch combined with active tone controls. You can use the bass control knob (labeled "Deep"), a treble control knob (labeled "Clear") for deeper tone sculpting. You have access to a wealth of bass tones whether its more rounded and subby or mid-range agressive with a bite.

Not only can you get a a highly sought after instrument, but it's also one that provides so much in terms of tones and playability. Made in Maryland during the earlier days of PRS, it's a rare bird.  This bass is in good condition with honest player wear, mainly in of nicks, finish scratches, belt buckle rash and overall flavor.  Everything on the bass is original, and it also comes with a hardshell case.  The techs in our shop have set it up to play perfect and it's ready to go!
