We just took in a highly regarded guitar from Taylor's coveted Santee, California era - it's a 550 12-string, built in 1990.  This model delivers exceptional tone, featuring a solid Sitka Spruce top matched with a solid Mahogany back and sides. The combination yields bright, crisp articulation coupled with warm depth and excellent projection - exactly what you want out of a 12-string acoustic like this.  The full gloss finish looks great, resulting in a premium appearance.

The mahogany neck has 1 7/8" nut width and a very comfortable Soft V profile, topped with a ebony fretboard that has a 12" radius.  No matter where you play, it feels balanced and fast.  The neck is topped with high quality Schaller tuners for precision accuracy.

One strum and you'll hear the rich, shimmering tone. This guitar is ideal for ringing open chords, folk-rock rhythms, acoustic pop, and lush studio arrangements.  Taylor acoustics are often appreciated for their clarity, even when strumming on a 12-string  There's a reason so many players go for a Taylor when choosing a 12-string guitar.   This 550 can fill out a mix beautifully, especially for rhythm parts and arpeggiated passages.  It's not just that; Taylor's neck design and setup can make a significant difference to playability.

The dreadnaught body helps with projection - so if you're strumming big, full chords you'll get a powerful sound, but with a bright, shimmering top end.  Once you start fingerpicking, a layered, chiming sound that works beautifully for arpeggios and open tunings becomes available.  This Taylor 550 is acoustic electric, so it will work well both on stage and also in the studio.

The original hardshell case is included.  The guitar has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop, and is in great condition, especially considering its age.  The previous owner bought it new and had it until this year - it's now ready for its new home.
