Pre-Owned 1997 Collings OM-3 Sunburst with OHSC

If you're looking for an collection-grade exquisite instrument, that's simply one of the best playing acoustics you'll experience, you will certainly enjoy the boutique brillance of this Collings OM-3. This is a not-to-missed orchestra-style acoustic guitar that has been expertly crafted with premium appointments. Collings are known for their sonic projection and spectrum of tones and overtones and this one is a great example.
‘OM’ stands for “Orchestra Model,” but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. Yet flatpickers also find it appealing, and when the graceful cutaway is added these OMs are often used by lead players who routinely explore all 20 frets much as they would on an electric guitar. The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and the relatively shallow body results in a balanced tone and immediate response.
The Collings 3-style (OM3) models have a 25.5" scale length and 15" lower bout and are super comfortable to play. The guitar features East Indian rosewood back and sides with a Adirondact spruce top. It has a Honduran mahogany neck with a 1.75" nut width, which is topped with a nice dark ebony fretboard. The bridge is ebony as well. You also get ivoroid body/fingerboard/peghead binding and butt wedge, no herringbone top purfling, a “chevron” backstrip, no fingerboard inlays, and an abalone rosette.
Custom pre-war style scalloped X-bracing brings dynamic response and warmth - at first strum, you'll hear how amazing it sounds. Every Collings we get in has that moment where eyes get wide - this one definitely does. There's a reason why Collings is one of the most highly regarded brands for acoustic aficionados, and this tone is why. It's thick without being boomy, and balanced across the tonal spectrum. This OM-3 is offers a clear and fast response, with strong definition without ever sound harsh. It could be the best sounding acoustic in the house at the moment.
The guitar is in excellent condition considering it's nearing it's 30th birthday. It has been played, and shows signs of that, just as it should - but nothing major, just honest player wear and a few marks. Over the years, it's settled in nicely and aged just as you'd want it. The techs in our shop have vetted and set it up to play perfectly.
The original hardshell case is included. Any Collings guitar is a great score, but this OM-3 really stands out as a winner.
