This Jerry Jones 6-String Bass, famously dubbed the "Silver Jones" by roots-rock legend Webb Wilder, is a hand-built, Nashville-crafted homage to the iconic 1960s Danelectro and Silvertone six-string basses. Built around a comfortable 30-inch scale length and tuned E-to-E an octave below a standard guitar, this instrument delivers that punchy, percussive bass sound used on countless recordings.
With the Jerry Jones workshop officially closing its doors years ago, these boutique instruments have become highly sought-after holy grail instruments. You rarely see these out there, and when you do, they go quick. This one in particular was new at Truetone in 2011, right before Jerry Jones ceased production. Some of the last builds were sent here, and this one was snagged by one of the employees. It's been kept in great shape and is now available on the open market for the first time.
Constructed with a single-cutaway body featuring a lightweight poplar frame and classic Masonite top and back, this bass pairs a resonant poplar neck with a dark rosewood fingerboard. Jerry Jones massively upgraded the original design by adding fully adjustable truss rods and improved bridge/saddle compensation for rock-solid intonation and low, slinky action.
At the heart of its sound is a set of custom USA-made, Jerry Jones-wound lipstick tube pickups, delivering that signature woody thump, crystalline top-end chime, and tight midrange bite that cuts through any mix. Easily dial in your favorite sounds with volume controls for each pickup and a master tone control.
Stay in tune with high-quality Gotoh tuners, rock solid steel bridge with individual saddles. This expressive instrument is all you need for versatile low end thump, it perfectly bridges the gap between retro charm and professional-grade craftsmanship.
Tuned E to E with strings specifically made for this instrument, D'Addario XL155 Jerry Jones (.024 - .084), it has been setup to play perfectly by the tech in our shop. The Bass6 is in in excellent condition and comes with its original hardshell case. This is quite the find and likely to go fast!
