Pre-Owned 1998-99 Peavey Cirrus 5-String Bass Bubinga Natural with OHSC
If you play five strings and want a bass that’s built for it, this USA-made Peavey Cirrus 5 with a bubinga top is a great find. It’s a neck-through bass from the late ’90s with active electronics, and the Cirrus has been a favorite with working bass players since Peavey introduced it in 1997.
The big idea behind the Cirrus is the neck-through construction. The neck runs the full length of the body, so there’s no joint between your hand and the note. That gives you solid sustain and a clear, even tone across the strings, and it keeps the weight in check. This one comes in at 8.9 lbs.
It has a 35" scale, which helps the low B string stay tight and defined instead of floppy, and 24 frets, so you’ve got plenty of room up top. For pickups, the Cirrus uses two Peavey VFL humbuckers, which are active, so you get a strong, clean signal. The 18-volt electronics give you a 3-band EQ with bass, mid and treble controls, plus a volume knob and a pickup blend, so you can dial in everything from a deep, round tone to something sharp and punchy for slap and fingerstyle.
This one is in very good condition and has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop. We did notice that one of the pots is scratchy - it functions but does produce noise when turned. One thing worth knowing: the truss rod cover is missing. It’s a small detail, but look through the photos to see the bass up close. It comes with its original hardshell case.
If you're in the market for a 5-string bass that was made in America and won't break the bank, this Peavey Cirrus is the right call.
