If you're out scoping the market for an American-made acoustic bass on a great deal, you've arrived at the right spot. We just took in this slim and easy to play Martin 00C-16GTAE. It's a premium acoustic-electric bass built for those that want the natural character of an acoustic instrument without the bulk and awkwardness of a traditional full-size acoustic bass.
With its comfortable 00-style thinline body, solid Sitka spruce top, and solid mahogany back and sides, this Martin brings a warm, focused acoustic voice. You still get plenty of punch and definition. The mahogany neck has a comfortable profile that is slim to match the body, and very easy to play. The gloss finish, black binding and triple ring rosette complete the package, and the tortoiseshell pickguard is a nice touch.
The 00C-16GTAE was designed with playability in mind; the narrower body makes it much more comfortable compared to other acoustic basses. We also noticed how good it sounds unplugged, as a straight acoustic. The bottom end is still present - that's what typically gets lost. Martin really nailed it with the design and construction of this one. Once plugged in, the Fishman electronics deliver a natural amplified sound. The 4 band EQ gives you plenty of control to shape your tone.
This bass is a great choice for acoustic sets, singer-songwriter applications, studio work, or just sitting on the couch. It's perfect for anyone needing an acoustic bass with a more manageable feel.
Overall it's in great condition. We did notice that it has a crack/damage on the lower cutaway horn, but our techs vetted it and the structural integrity is intact, with no impact on sound or playability. It's been setup to play perfectly and is ready to go. The 00C-16GTAE is a great score at this price - you get a made in the USA high-quality acoustic-electric bass that's super easy to play.
