Used And Vintage Electric Guitars

Sometimes the bus rolls back around to bring us a guitar that we had years ago - in this case, a decade ago.  And this one looks virtually new, unplayed.  It comes with an interesting story.....

In 2015, the Fender rep came to Truetone with a list of Custom Shop guitars that were available.  All were unique builds, and one stuck out as especially cool: a Two-Tone Tele, with the top being Aztec Gold, with Walnut back & sides.  It was snagged right away.  Once the guitar landed, it ended up being sold to a long-time regular and friend of the store, as gift birthday gift to himself.  He had the Truetone repair shop install a set of his favorite vintage-flavored Kuwabara pickups, with the intent of making it a recording guitar.

Flash forward 10 years later, to 2025.  That same Fender rep is now the co-owner of Truetone.  And that same customer is back in, buying a guitar for himself for his birthday again (this time, a vintage Martin).  To help finance that, he brought in this Tele for us to sell.  It had stayed in storage the whole time, not being played, so it's super clean.  And it's now available on a great deal.

This Fender Custom Shop build starts with a 1952 Telecaster as the base model.  Keeping it true to the original design, it has a an ash body, with a sturdy maple neck.  You're getting the Nocaster U neck shape, with vintage specs.  If you like a fat neck, this is for you.  Also, if you like light guitars, this is a great find - it weighs in at just 6.7 lbs.

Where it varies from the original design of the Telecaster is the aesthetic - there's parchment binding on the top, at a touch of an early 60's vibe, and the color is Aztec Gold, with Walnut stained back & sides.  It's a great look.

As mentioned, the previous owner had Truetone put in Kuwabara pickups.  For those that don't know, Kuwabara makes vintage-styled pickups, handwound by Sayoko Kuwabara, formerly of the Fender Custom Shop (trained by the legendary Abigail Ybarra!).  This set was based on an early 50's Tele, so you can get that original twang and classic tone that put Fender on the map.  The original pickups are the Custom Shop 51 Nocaster set, which are included in the case if you want to revert it back (or just have a great set of pickups to put in a different Tele).

All of the hardware is original and period correct.  The original tweed case is included, as is the Certificate of Authenticity.

The guitar is in excellent condition - we'd even dare to say mint, other than a small indentation on the top that can't be seen in photos.  The techs in our shop set it up to play perfectly, and it's ready to go.

This is something you don't see often.  Interestingly, as a side note, this exact look led to a run of "Truetone Two-Tone" guitars that we do with the Fender Custom Shop to this day.  We loved it that much then and still do to this day!
