The Gretsch Custom Shop is where the time-honored legacy reaches its creative apex. No instruments epitomize the extraordinary expertise and attention to detail of Gretsch’s most trusted hands like Custom Shop instruments. From modern versions of legendary Gretsch instruments to artist tribute models and specially requested one-off guitars, the Gretsch Custom Shop takes “That Great Gretsch Sound” to an entirely new plane, but also preserves and perfects it.
This particular guitar was created in 2015 by legendary Masterbuilder Stephen Stern. He retired a few years ago, so anything built by him remains high in demand, and is getting increasingly hard to find.
Speaking of legends, that's a Duo Jet is. Utilized by players as diverse as George Harrison, Chris Cornell, David Gilmour and Alex Turner, it's a iconic model. Any Duo Jet is great, but a Custom Shop build like this one is the top of the line.
This Gretsch comes with a single-cut chambered mahogany body with a snappy bound maple top. This body is resonant with warmth and articulate tones. You get a set mahogany neck with a bound ebony fingerboard with thumbnail inlays, vintage frets, and a bone nut. The headstock has the classic Gretsch inlay. This is of course being a 1959 reissue comes with a thicker neck profile then the modern Duo Jet. It's a C shape and still very comfortable.
This is a Relic, so the body, neck, and hardware feature distressed aging for that vintage look and feel. It's all very tastefully done. The Champagne Sparkle maple top is especially exquisite and will really stand out.
Enjoy the power of its pair of TV Jones FilterTrons that deliver thick punchy tones with an airy twang on the top end that gives you a distinct tone from other humbucking pickups. Additionally these pickups have even more output which is perfect for clean settings and provides more edge with more overdriven amps.
Find your favorite tones with the unique Gretsch controls; Volume, Tone, Master Tone. There are two switches; Pickup selector and Tone selector. Plus they come with the "G" arrow knobs. You get a classic pickguard with etched Gretsch logo too. Of course one of the most iconic features of any Gretsch is its Bigsby tremolo bridge, and this one has a Bigbsy B-3C feels comfortable and expressive.
All in all this is a legendary instrument that is in excellent condition and comes with its original hardshell case. The techs in our shop have set it up to play perfectly.
