Pre-Owned Collings 1995 C10 Deluxe 41 Natural With OHSC
If you're looking for a high quality acoustic that's simply one of the best playing acoustics you'll experience, you will certainly appreciate this Collings C10. We just took this one in, which was crafted in 1995. Collings are known for their superior build quality, strong sound projection and amazing playability - this one is a prime example.
Based on guitars first introduced around the same time as the OM, the Collings C10 is a leaner alternative with the narrow waist and small upper bout resulting in a precise, focused response. Of all their acoustic models, the C10 is perhaps the easiest for electric guitarists to adapt to, thanks in part to the more rounded neck profile. The small oval neck heel is ideally suited to the optional cutaway, which allows unrestricted access to the upper frets. With its unique shape and asymmetrical headstock’s lines echoed in the curvilinear pickguard, C10 models offer a welcome alternative for those who find that most small acoustic guitars look too much alike.
The C10 we have here is a Deluxe 41 style - it has rare appointments with MOP inlays in the fleur de lis design. We called Collings about this guitar and were told that it was rarely done, making this quite the special find. This is something that was not done on a regular basis and only available on custom orders.
The guitar features East Indian rosewood back and sides paired with a Sitka spruce top. The Honduran mahogany neck has a very comfortable C profile, topped with an Ebony fretboard that has a 14 - 26" compound radisu. The backstrip is maple/rosewood, and since it's a Deluxe you get ivoroid binding on the fingerboard and peghead. It has a 25 1/2″ scale length, b/w/b/w/b top purfling, and a bone nut.
The Collings C10 Deluxe produces a sound that is precise, focused, and punchy, delivering an exceptional tonal balance along with unexpected volume and a swift response for a guitar of its compact size. Even though it's relatively small, it often exceeds the volume and low-end presence of larger traditional guitars. The body shape helps create a precise response and avoids a muddy bottom end, and while the bass is still present and warm, the real star is the dynamic punch of the midrange and crispness of the top end. It's a well balanced tone and quite pleasing to the ear.
The guitar is in excellent condition considering it has passed it's 30th birthday. It has been played, and shows signs of that, just as it should - but nothing major, just honest player wear and a few marks. Over the years, it's settled in nicely and aged just as you'd want it. The techs in our shop have vetted and set it up to play perfectly.
The original hardshell case is included. Any Collings guitar is a great score, but this C10 Deluxe really stands out as a winner.
