A Truly Unique One of a Kind

At Truetone Music, we are lucky enough to see a wide variety of unique guitars come through the door.  We've seen a lot - but occasionally one really grabs our attention.  This one of those times, as what we have here is the only one that exists.

In 2008, Fender came out with a very small run of Limited Edition Rattlecan Jr. Stratocasters.  Made in California, utilizing bodies previously made for the Stratosonic, this seems to be a blend of Fender and Gibson, with a variety of features not seen on a normal Strat - including a 24.75 scale length (hence the name "Jr").  This was a one-time run, and these unique creatures have been sought after ever since.  Information is out there saying that only 50 were made, with 25 in Peackock Green and 25 in Jacquard Red.  However, according to Fender's own numbers, only 16 green and 17 red were sold.   That in itself makes it rare.  Now here's what makes this one even more rare.....

This is the only dual pickup Rattlecan Jr that Fender made.   The model was a single (bridge) pickup guitar - but this one was made as a prototype for the Product Manager for Fender's Electric Guitar division.  He's owned it ever since, until now.  Additionally, this is the only one with a toggle switch (others were made with a plug for that spot on the body, as well as vintage tuners.   It's a true on of kind guitar.  Being a prototype built and modified in-house at Fender, there's no serial number on the back of the headstock.  This guitar is just a a rare find - it's the only to ever exist.

The pickups are Custom Shop Seymour Duncans, and while they covers make them appear to be P90's, that's not what they are.  The bridge pickup is a PAF humbucker and the neck pickup is a Strat style single coil.  This, along with the 3-way toggle switch, provides a variety of unique tones.

The mahogany body (also very unique for a Fender) looks great under the transparent Jacquard Red finish.  It has what Fender called a "knocked down" satin finish, which feels great.  We love the touch of the tortoise shell pickguard - it matches the body very well.  The painted black headstock is a nice addition as well.  The guitar is rounded out with an interesting mix of a Gibson style wraparound bridge, vintage tuners and contoured neck heel.

This is one of the cooler and more unique guitars we've had here in a while, and we're excited to offer it.  The condition is excellent, and the guitar has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.  The original hardshell case (Fender molded) is included.  For anyone with an appreciation of unique guitars or any Fender fanatic, this would be a great addition to the collection.  There's only one - and once it's gone, it's gone!
