Any Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul is going to be amazing - but some will stand out as being beyond that, elevating to a rather significant status.  In 2023, Gibson put together a run of 300 guitars, in partnership with the legendary Tom Murphy.  6 different colors were chosen, and only 50 of each were made.  This is one of them. 

This limited run was made incorporating Murphy's deep knowledge of vintage guitars, passion for his craft, and inspired creativity.  This brought his vision of the ultimate 1959 Les Paul Standard reissues to life. These extraordinary guitars utilize handpicked materials of the highest quality, including Brazilian rosewood fretboards, super lightweight mahogany bodies, and AAAA-figured maple tops that were cherry-picked and set aside specifically for this release. Their Murphy Lab aging is unique and distinct from other Murphy Lab offerings and completely unique to this distinguished limited run, with a heavy treatment and notable touches like custom-aged plated and plastic parts. 

As this was a part of this very special limited run, and a leather-bound certificate of authenticity and an aged Lifton hardshell case were also included with each one of these exceptional instruments - and this is the complete package.

This is one of (if not THE) lightest Custom Shop Les Paul's we've come across, as it's just 8 pounds.  Everyone that picked it up commented that it's perhaps the best playing Les Paul we've had, right out of the case.  And of course, it sounds amazing, thanks to the set of Custombuckers employed in this guitar.

Extensive research and rigorous testing by Gibson engineers have produced a precise method to recreate the iconic sound of the original '50s Patent Applied For humbucker pickups. Each Custombucker features Alnico 5 magnets, delivering a warm, rich tone that faithfully captures the unique sonic qualities of those vintage pickups. Staying true to the originals, these pickups employ 42 AWG wire and feature unbalanced coils left unpotted, offering an authentic response that satisfies even the most discerning.

Rarely does an instrument capture the essence of an authentic ’59 like a Murphy Lab edition equipped with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Showcasing a striking Lemon Burst maple top with intricate checking, this guitar exemplifies Tom’s exceptional artistry. Its impressive visual appeal is matched by superb playability and tonal quality, reflecting the pinnacle of the Custom Shop’s craftsmanship. Carefully aged and elegantly worn, this guitar stands as an outstanding tribute to a pivotal vintage icon.

The guitar is in excellent shape - it was bought by a collector, kept in his climate controlled studio, and comes with everything that it originally came - the original case, leather bound booklet, Certificate of Authenticity, paperwork and true pride of ownership.  Now it can be yours.
