We just scored this killer American Vintage '64 Tele in the ultra cool color of Lake Placid Blue.  The guitar was built in late 2012/early 2013, sold here at Truetone, and now has reappeared, looking like it got a lot of love and some modifying.  It's a great playing Tele, and light, too - just 6.7 lbs.

For the guitarist who craves pure vintage Fender style, the American Vintage series presents original-era model year guitars built with meticulous attention to accurate detail that bring Fender history and heritage to authentic and exciting new life.  1964 was a big year for popular music and for the Telecaster, which saw notable design changes that year. It had by then become an indispensable guitar for stage and studio alike, a requisite tool for working guitarists at all levels. Built using original tooling and based on actual 1964 models we tracked down, the U.S.-made American Vintage '64 Telecaster expertly evokes that year's model with authentic sound, style and feel.

Unique Features: Slimmer, more rounded maple neck with "C"-shaped profile and round-laminated rosewood fingerboard with larger pearl dot inlays; All-new pickups wound to period-correct specs and sound; Threaded steel "barrel" bridge saddles; "Top-hat" switch tip and flat-top knurled chrome control knobs

This particular one was modified, with all of the work done here in house.  Here's what was done:
  • A DiMarzio Area T pickup was installed in the bridge position, which sounds amazing.  It does what a great Tele bridge pickup is  supposed to do: the highs sing, the lows snap, and the mids have a punch that’s almost unreal.   It tracks changes in pick attack and volume, and it does it instantly. It's also very sensitive to string distance. The volume is very high when the pickup is close to the strings, but can be adjusted much lower by backing the Area T away. String pull is not a problem with the Alnico 2 magnets that are standard on the Area T.
  • Compensated saddles were put on the bridge, for better intonation and tuning stability.
  • A Bigsby was added on, and then removed.  Evidence of this is seen in the form of small holes on the body where it was mounted.
Everything else is all original and all straight.  It has been vetted and setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.  The guitar comes with the original hardshell case, as well as the "case candy" (vintage reproduction paperwork, polish cloth, cable, bridge cover, etc.).  This is quite the package!  If you're looking for a killer Tele with a ton of vibe, you've found it.
