Every now & then, we sell a guitar that we wish we could get back, since we loved it so much. Sometimes, the planets align, and we do get it back! This is one of those situations. And, it has a very interesting backstory....
In the early 2010's, the Fender Custom Shop was led by Mike Eldred, who was responsible for some of the most unique and now classic guitars. Of these, the Cabronita Familia guitar really stood out, especially this twisted version of the iconic Jazzmaster body shape. Behold, the Limited Edition La Cabronita "Boracha" Jazzmaster.
With features and electronics from 2009's original La Cabronita - as sought after and played by artists including John Mayer and Keith Urban - this incarnation, the "Boracha" Jazzmaster really stepped out on it's own. It has a bit more body mass for added sustain, a reverse body shape, small Cabronita style pickguard, and one of the most unique looks of any Custom Shop guitar we've seen. It's lightweight too - just 7.7 lbs, thanks to the hand-selected lightweight ash body. The thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish has been given the Relic treatment, in a very tasteful way. The one-piece maple neck has a Large C neck shape and is very comfortable to play. The 9.5" radius and 6105 (Narrow Tall) make lead playing and bending quite easy. The hardtail bridge with a chromed brass plate and solid stainless steel saddles gives your serious sustain. And if you didn't notice, the Tele headstock tops off the guitar, adding to the quirkiness of it.
The guitar is loaded with Hot TV Jones Power'Tron pickups, a perfect match for this guitar. The controls are simple: just a volume and tone, with custom Greasebucket wiring, which allows you to dial it back, rolling off the highs without losing output. This isn't just a truly unique guitar - it's a truly amazing sounding guitar.
This La Cabronita Boracha Jazzmaster was made in 2011. It was one of the first Custom Shop guitars that Fender District Sales Manager Sunir Patel sold to Truetone Music when he started handling the account in July of that year. After it arrived, the guitar was sold to a longtime regular and local collector. 7 years later, Sunir left Fender to become the new owner of Truetone. A few years after that, the collector that had this guitar, brought his entire collection to Truetone to sell, and worked out a deal with Sunir. So, 11 years after originally sold, it's come full circle - and is now available on the market again.
Everything on the guitar is original, and it comes with the original case, Certificate of Authenticity, paperwork, strap and cable. It's the complete package. The guitar has been vetted and setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.
Only a small number of La Cabronita Boracha Jazzmasters were made, and they are very hard to come by. This is an opportunity to not only own a great guitar, but a piece of the Fender Custom Shop's history. We don't think it will last long!
